I am turning my club coupe into a hornet. I have all the body trim, interior trim and a new 308 motor. Can anyone tell me the exact location of the trunk rocket.I'm looking for something like"top hole 18" down from top and 12" in from left. Bottom hole ect.

Thanks again

Ok here's the best way I can measure those holes for you. Firstly set the trunk lid on a flat floor leaning up against a wall so that the bottom edge (the edge nearest the bumper) is UP.

I used a "bubble stick", which is a plastic ruler, 4' long, with two bubble levels in it --- one for vertcal, and one for horizontal. This ruler is flexible, so that I can bend it to follow the contours of the lid.

Next draw a horizontal, (level) line across the lid exactly 24 inches from the floor, or the top edge of the lid, and another at 28 1/2 inches.

Now measure in from where the 24" line intersects with the passenger side of the lid, along the line to a point 6 and 1/2 inches in and make a mark there ( a + at the 6 1/2" mark and the 24" line )

Do the same along the 28 1/2 " line and measure in 13 3/4 inches and make your mark there.

Now you should have the center of each hole identified exactly, and if you've done your measuring correctly, then the holes should be just a hair over 8 3/4" apart center to center.

The above are the instructions provided to me by another HudNut some time ago.

That sounds like exactly the information you need!

Of course there is one other way (if for some reason you can't locate the rocket using Russ' measurements). That would be to make a paper template using the actual trunk lid (on the car) of a Hornet. Why don't you mention your approximate location? Then, if there's a kind-hearted Forum member and Hornet owner reasonably close to you, he could contact you and let you come over and make a template off his trunk.

I don't know if the factory pre-cut an access hole in the inner trunk lid but that would be something to look for. It may be necessary to cut one when you install your rocket. This is my 1954 four door sedan trunk lid.

Steven, you didn't mention what year car you had. Those measurements won't work on a '54.

Russ, I just reviewed some of Steven's previous posts. He has a 1951 Club Coupe.

Then the measurements I provided should work great.
