Dave K. asked me to share photos of the restoration work being done on his 1938 Hudson 112 convertible. Here they are (hopefully) -

Some of you might note the dual muffler & exhaust under the car (?). The other end is the original engine (1938 Hudson 212 flathead), with what appears to be an original, modified exhaust manifold. Haven't actually seen it in person in the vehicle - just some old photos, years ago, before restoration work and just after Dave bought the car.
He was curious about it (and still is). There was some thought that it might be among those cars that were at the Indy 500 - a '38 Hudson 112 convertible was the Pace Car that year. However from the serial number of the car, it doesn't look like it was built in time for that event. That, and a few other indications point toward the car having been raced, or possibly a very early 'street rod' modification (?)...

Here are a couple pictures of the engine in the convertible. You can see the dual-exhaust manifold in one of the pictures.
We got the '38 fired up yesterday for the first time. Let it run for about a minute or so. The motor sounded just fine. As far as I can tell the car had not been run since at least 1973. Will keep the updates coming as we continue to progress. Park Waldrop made a visit to see the car yesterday so he was on hand when we turned her over.
That's great, Dave! Congratulations! That's such a great feeling, particularly when the car hadn't run in so long. Back in May, my car moved for the first time since '60 under it's own power. That's such a rush!
We are making progress Russell. Hope to have it in Chattanooga so I can give you a ride.
I posted these pictures on the Open Forum & the Facebook page, but somehow missed posting them here (sorry Dave! ). Some 'mystery' parts. If you can help Dave identify them, it would be appreciated.
Part #1 - Please help identify (Per Dave, about 5 inches in length)

Part #2 - Please help identify (Per Dave, about 4 inches in length)

Part #1 - Please help identify (Per Dave, about 18 inches in length)

And a few more -

As is shown in the pictures, the shocks are painted red. I would be interested in getting some comments in regard to painting them a different color if this is not generally acceptable. Thanks and Merry Christmas to the Hudson folks.
Dave, the shocks would have been black originally, but the decision goes back to what we've discussed . . . it just depends on what you want the car to be. If you like the red shocks, keep 'em that way and paint 'em black when you're up for an AACA Grand National award.
Thanks Park. As you know I have taken a few liberties with the restoration. However, the red shocks stand out just a little bit more then I like. Think they will be black before long.
I like them. But I like contrast. Dark blue would still make them stand out, but not too much.
