Hi Chris,

This bulletin might help - 1948 - 1953 exc. Jet - Radio Antenna Installation Kit. Go to hetclub.org. You can find a copy in the online library under 1948-1954 Bulletins.

Are there directions available for a 1954 Senior Hudson?

[quote="Dr. Bob Goldberg" post=15896]Are there directions available for a 1954 Senior Hudson? The directions would be the same except for the routing of the wire. That is quite a long section that gets routed through the passenger 'A' pillar across the back of the dash to the radio. Center roof mount antennas and one piece windshields don't really mix too well.

How do you tighten them?

Ray,

If I remember correctly, you loosen the set screw (T) on the knob and remove the knob (S). You will then see a nut (R) that will tighten everything up. Be careful not to crack the escutcheon (Q).

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your advise .When I installed a new antenna several years ago, could not remove the knob with the set screw. Yes, I did crack the escutcheon , and the antenna is still lose. Still can't get the knob off! 🙁

That scenario is quite common. The roof is where a lot of heat naturally collects and over a period of time the antenna knob and plate warp or shrink. This type of plastic is prone to warpage in any event This makes removal of the old set about impossible without damage. Even if you do manage to remove them without damage they likely will be warped. best bet is to get a nice new set from Eschelmann.

I just took one off a 53 Hornet. It had been attempted before because the set screw was broken on one side. I wound up having to
cut thru the plastic using a thin cutting disc on a die grinder. I looked at a 53 Super Wasp coupe parts car I have that still has the antenna attached, the set screw ear was also broken on that one.

Have to bite the bullet, and cut it off and get a new one from Eschelman, as they make white ones.. Probably should wait until I put in a new headliner, as don't want to do it again.
