For a 1952 Hudson, what were the factory, or dealer options for backup lights?
I was out driving a few days ago early in the morning (4:30 Am- I like driving at night) in the middle of nowhere in the Illinois farm country, and pulled off on a side road to um...look at the stars. When I went to back up to get on the main road, I nearly backed into the far ditch. Couldn't see a thing...
I suppose one of those spotlights would do the job, but the car doesn't have one, and I don't want to start drilling holes in the post..
I could mount a spot under the bumper, or above the license plate that was mostly hidden, and could be easily removed?
or maybe one up in the exterior visor that shone into the rear view mirror...
What have you found that works?
Rob
Rob, Unity back up lights were sold by Hudson dealers as an accessory. Guide lights were also used as another type of backup. Yankee was another manufacturer that also supplied these needs and was used back when. They all still appear on ebay ,flea markets and Hudson meets. .
Rob, before you start drilling holes in the body, may I suggest 110 watts of backup lights that are connected only to the top holes in the license plate !! #BLZ-RE761C , $25. at O'Reillys only. CORRECTION
$14.05 @ Amazon: Blazer #RE761C
Maybe Rob is also wondering if there is a backup light switch connection at the transmission, once he finds the right backup lights?
I'm not a StepDown guy, but I feel sure that the lights would have been automatic by '53, so there must have been a place to mount a switch on the tranny.
The connection is on the neutral safety switch.

J Is correct. The 2 brass posts on the neutral safety switch. Otherwise its a manual switch for a 3 speed or an OD.

Richard, You are the only guy I know who has landing lights next to his license tag. LOL.
UPDATE>>>> tried to find these at O'Reillys online and they didn't have a listing any more.
HOWEVER, located the correct one at Amazon. Would suggest if anyone even thinks they need these on a 52-53 to get them. They are $14.05 now and that includes 2-55 watt 12v halogen bulbs. {for 6 volts: you must buy the bulbs

AND, you can hardly see these compared to the stock ones that fasten to the body >> bad !!
Lance and Richard,
It is good to know I have some options.
Thank you for the information!
Rob
Jon, J. and Lance,
Thank you.
That would have been my next question...
