How does the 1956 308 hydraulic cam and lifters perform compared with the standard flat tappet cam and lifters pros&cons appreciated

For a street vehicle, not that much difference. The hydraulics are good for maintenance-free operation (you don't have to regularly adjust them). Particularly if you run headers, adjusting the tappets is just about impossible without first dropping the headers. You lose a little hp with the hydraulics, but again, in a street machine, it's a negligible difference. I'm sure more will add to this.
Hudson's do not run enough oil pressure to keep them oiled. That is the reason when 1956's came with them we had to change them back to solid lifters. Boy did they get noisy. Stick with solids, but you made them hard to adjust because you installed headers. Just remove the heat flapper and the exhaust is now opened. Walt.
