What ever happened to the parts list we stared many years ago, of parts that could substituted for many 1948-1954 OEM parts, and functioned as well as the originals. We had developed and added to it over the years, as new parts were found to be good usable substitutes by trial and error. Parts like 71 AMC Gremlin 6 cyl. front engine mounts, although square, they were a perfect fit and had a better durometer than the old round ones. Or the shocks and filters from NAPA that were drop-ins. How about the Mustang fuel pumps having the same bolt pattern and reach as the duel action Hudson pumps? Did this list continue, go away or is it in Coopers notes or just gone.
Thanks  Forgetful Bobby .
I think the list (as outdated as it is) is still around and surfaces every once in a while. When it surfaces once again, somebody should take the bull by the horns and get rid of all the duplication therein. The main problem with it being the aftermarket manufactures are continually changing their part numbers, and the same source cross-over lists fade into the sunset far to often, leaving us "High & Dry".
Jerry is right. The old interchange guide is pretty outdated and many of the replacement parts available when it was written are no longer available now. It really does need to be updated.
Guys, there is a lively discussion going on, on this subject, over on the "other" forum. Click HERE
Any interchange list (such as Lou Backus' old list from decades ago) is bound to become obsolete soon. What we need is a "dynamic" list that helpful people like you and me, can update periodically, and even add to. (Remember how new Pinto fuel pumps used to the the "standard" for replacing the StepDown pumps? Then suddenly people started using AMC pumps?)
I suggested to one of our moderators (at the Open Forum) that we start a webpage just devoted to interchanges. If we could get just one guy or gal to act as "editor", people could then e-mail him or her with their interchange information. Then, maybe every 6 months, the editor could pass along the results to the webmaster or moderator, who could update the webpage with the latest listing.
This wouldn't take much time or effort on the part of the editor. But it would be a real service to the Club and Hudson owners everywhere.
I have a document I made up with tech tips and non-Hudson parts. It's in the online library in the Other H-E-T Literature in the General section - click on the letter "T" to readily access this document.
I has wheel bearings by Bower/BCA, electrical parts, brakes and brake parts. Most of the numbers may be out of date but it's a place to start.
The tech tip portion is full of things members have found to work.
Hudsonly,

As was pointed out on the Open Forum, Ken Cates' longtime-running webpage dedicated to step downs has kept an updated list for that very reason. It is an on-going endeavor and is updated regularly:
http://hudsonrestoration1948-54.com/
Seems to me this endeavor already has a tool in place.
I wasn't aware of that. But looking at the interchange, it seems like it's mostly for StepDowns. I wonder if he'd be willing to do it for all Hudsons? Also, there seem to be a lot of categories that will be updated as time permits.
I guess I was thinking of sometime a bit more all-encompassing, not just for StepDowns and also one where we have someone totally devoted to keeping the interchange current.
It's great that he's doing this for StepDowns, though. Every little bit helps. Wonder why his page doesn't have a link on the H-E-T website?
Ed Petersen just posted this on HET Facebook-- Things do need to be in one central place? This also fits a '53 and probably earlier.

I remember it well. We need to combine it and I will keep it updated 1/4 ly.
