Hello all; I've searched for information in the 1950 manuals and within the forums here, but have not been able to answer the question as to whether Hudson made an oil filter provision if the car is fitted with Supermatic. I would like to add a filter and am open to a non authentic location, but have concluded the oil ports are obstructed by the very busy installation of the Supermatic system.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Pat
Pat, I would think you are correct. There is no room for a filter housing with all the vacu-drive mechanicals attached. After I removed those items on my '50 C6, I discovered the vacuume advance was missing from the distributor. I could not see it with everything in the way. A remote location would only make sense. If anyone has a photo of such an installation, I would greatly appreciate it. As I stated, I think the ports are blocked by a bracket.

Shootin' from the hip here, I'd believe that the usual mounting bracket has no chance of fitting but I'd guess the block ports are accessible by some means. The filter canister can be mounted just about anywhere it will go without any effect on function (which is just about nil anyway) and plumbed into the system. Granted, there is little room available on that side of the engine.....much less with the SMD.
Suggestion: Consider a conversion to true "Full-Flow" oil filtration. It is entirely installed on the oil-pump side of your engine, solving the spacial conflict issue and provides the advantages of full-flow filtration. Have a look:
