[quote="Geoff Clark " post=13948]Gauge needles pivot from the top, not the bottom.

It's been a long time and I may be wrong, on my 50C8 the needles rest to the right and pivot from the top. But I'm almost positive the needles on my 51S6 and 54H pivot from the bottom. (I know they rest to the left.)

The first thing is your gauge housing is upside down the light sockets should be on top (You probably know this already)

The second thing is after you pull the cluster your gauges should read to the left. Try putting negative 6 volts (using a battery charger) to the bar and the positive lead to each gauge and it should move to the right (you are the one who converted his car to 12v, right?)

Third, I'm not sure but if you are using a negative ground 12 volt system you may have to reverse your wires.

Fourth, your gauges might be in wrong holes. While the cluster is out, run jumper wires from the temperature sender and battery to the temperature gauge. Start your car and the gauge should remain cold until it starts to warm up. If it doesn't either you have the wire to the gas tank or the gauges are reversed. Make sure the wires are taped up. If everything turns out OK, then rotate the gauges in the hole

Good luck .

Tks, Eddie, I wanted lots of info before I went under the dash to correct this thing. Will have to rotate the panel then probably switch AND rotate the gages{to pivot at bottom}. Using aftermarket temp. gage so that will not work until I put another sender into head/thermostat housing. but will figure it out. Will probably take seat out to do all this in colder weather.

Sure is a lot easier with the seat out.

Richard:

Don't forget when you remove the 2 Philips screws & flip it you need to flip the glass on the front also.
