I am looking for a body shop or person between the Buffalo,NY to Rochester,NY area. Recently my 1948 Hudson Commadore -4 door was t-boned, took out the drivers side door, the center post and rear door. also damaged rocker panel. I am trying to find a place to get it put back together. This car is not a show car. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
John Fromm lives in that area - he might know somebody. Not trying to rain on your parage but if the perimeter frame is bent it may not be repairable without a whole lot of work. It's going to bad enough as is, with the center post damaged as well.
Hudsonly,

Joe,
Sorry I can't help with your question, but if you'd care to share any details of the accident, I'm interested.
I'm trying to learn more about how well the Hudson design protects the occupants in a crash.
The perimeter frame, and general design was touted as adding much safety. Do you feel it helped in your case?

Hi Rob,
My car was t-boned at a traffic signal, I was cruising about 25mph.On the drivers side. it took out the center door post, rear door, part of front door, and rocker panel. when I was hit it spun my car 180 degrees, I had a few facial scratches. I walked away from the accident and I drove the car home. I don't think I would of been that lucky driving a newer car.
if you want more info -- just ask
Joe
Joe,
Thanks for your reply.
It sounds like driving a Hudson that day was a good choice! Do you know how fast the other driver was going at the time?
Rob
A number of years back there was a story, I've forgotten where it happened, a teen-age boy was taking his best friend home on morning after a sleep-over. His dad let the boys take the Hudson, a '54 as I recall. They stopped for a red light and an 18-wheeler rear ended them so hard the front bumper of the truck was in the back seat of the Hudson. The kids walked away from the wreck One of the cops who responded had a few year on him and he told the kids that had they been in a modern car they probably would have been killed.
My Dad bought and repaired new wrecked cars for extra money. One he bought was a brand new wrecked 55 Hudson Hornet to fix up to sell. The car was stolen from dealership and during the escape the thief ran head on into a power pole hitting center of grill. The pole pushed the grill back to about where number two three cylinder would have been. The engine was pushed down below the firewall. I was about 13 at the time and was asked to clean up the inside. I don't know if driver survived, while cleaning up there was a lot of blood and teeth on the floor. Dad repaired the car but having to replace the engine, which he didn't count on, there was no profit. But that summer we went to Yosemite for vacation in that car. Dad pulled off the road behind some trees, folded down the front seat back to make a bed. About that time the park ranger pulled up and told dad he had to go to the camp grounds. Dad, mom, my brother and I got to spend out first night sleeping in a Hudson bed. I was excited to try it out. As I recall it was not very comfortable stretched out over front to back seat cushions. Next day dad bought air mattresses and the rest of the vacation nights were a little more comfortable. That was the last vacation sleeping in a car.
He bought as few more wrecked Hudson's and Nash's to fix up after that. They were rugged well built cars.

Alex,
Thank you for the story and information!
Rob
Lee,
Thank you for the information, and your camping story.
Teeth and blood...good way get a young fellow to grow up...or at least have a better understanding of reality.
