Everyone I got my ignition switch in the mail today (thanks Lance). I had the most gut wrenching experience this morning ... I had to put my most loyal companion of 14 years my border collie, Pepper, to sleep. I don't feel much like tinkering on the old Hudson right now but I will put the switch in maybe tomorrow & let every one know how she works.

good day for now

J, sorry to hear about you pet. I had to do that with our Dobbie over a year ago and it still brings tears to my eyes thinking about him.

J, sorry to hear about Pepper. It is so hard to let them go. But know that he has crossed the Rainbow Bridge to a land where there is no pain and he's forever young again, the sun always shines, there's plenty to eat and many, many playmates. He'll be waiting with his new buddies when your time comes to join him.

Hudsonly,
Alex B

J Lombard J, I know how you feel . Been there done that . Hated it. Hang in there . Thats the bitter price we all pay for having a good canine friend. Their lives are way too short.

[quote="Per Christiansen" post=12608]J,

Perhaps Doug has one.

Per, I'm sorry I didn't follow-up with you on the compression check of "DOC Hudson" I went back to the room to change, sat down and fell asleep!!

Doug,

I wondered where you were!

Did you receive the compression readings from Dick?

I did not squirt oil in the low cylinders to see if the reading would go up.

The idle mixture screw did not change the idling, from all the way in to about two turns out from where I found it. I didn't have any starting fluid to check for air leakage through the gaskets between the carburetor and the block. When warmed up, the car idled at normal speed, but with the lowest cylinder not firing.

Time to move on
Thank you everyone for your kind words about Pepper & sharing your stories about your dogs.

On a lighter note
I received the ignition switch & have installed the new starter solenoid & am happy to report the engine now turns over with the key.

Solution to this dilemma was the installation of a "GROUND BASED STARTER SOLENOID".

I will close this thread now & move on to actually STARTING the engine. I want to thank:

Eddie, Russ, Per, Alex, Doug & Ken for all your help.

best regards to all

J Lombard
