Quite a bigger job than I thought...I'll just buy a visor and put it on the car...right...

I bought the visor from Perry.
Cleaned and sanded and painted, then tried to mount it on the car and ran into several problems, but finally it is mounted and done except for the center trim strip that should arrive soon.

I like it, I think it was worth the effort and expense! 🙂

That's a beautiful car, Rob! And you'll like the visor, I hope. Not only does it look good, it's very functional. It actually keeps a lot of sun out of the car and off of the dash.

But, what the hell is that on your hood ornament??

By the way, did you paint the inside of your visor green?

I probably would not have thought to match visor color with body color. I like it. Someone will have that trim piece for you. Perhaps Perry can make one for you.

Russell,

It does work well! My son commented last night that he didn't need sunglasses to drive the car. It performs its function well.
No, I painted it all the same color. I noticed most originals were green, less glare?
Long story about the paint matching and actual color, but after all that effort, it isn't an exact match, so I may be repainting.

The thing on the hood ornament is me being different, stirring things up 😉
It is a bug shield. Actually works a little!

Lee,

Thank you.

I love the cream color so much, I couldn't bear to paint it brown...
A look at Russell's car convinced me it would work.
Perry doesn't make the trim, but Russ Maas found the trim for me, so it should be on soon!

Now you need to change your avatar. I like the color choice. Can't tell from the photos that it doesn't match.

Bit of trivia about the visors. They were a dealer option. Most (not all), but most came from Karvisor, who made visors for various auto manufacturers and were usually specially made for each company. They were sent to the dealers in the original mint green primer in the box. It was up to the dealer to paint them whatever color the customer wanted. The easiest way to accomplish this was to mount the visor, tape it off and spray the outside (not the inside). The car could be returned back to the customer relatively quickly, even before the paint had cured. Subsequently, the inside of most everyone's visors were still the mint green primer. I don't have access to my photos right now, or I'd post one. I actually had a paint mixed to match the old primer color.

It's a good thing we all have such different tastes, gives us so much more variety. But I'd say that bug shield has GOT to go!! Get a couple of orange breezies for your vent windows (very cool). Bug Shield . . . not so cool. LOL!

Russell,

Thanks for the trivia!

Mine came raw steel, so all one color made sense.
Green is okay, but isn't my color...

Amber is good though 😉

The bug shield is era correct, not for everyone I'm sure, but looks ok by me, and helps keep my window clean!
It is mounted so it can be easily removed with no trace or damage...so in case someone were to offer me enough to buy the car, I'd take it off for them.

Took the car for a hundred mile run this afternoon. Speeds were 70-75 mostly, with a couple 85's. The visor is staying tight so I must have gotten it mounted correctly. I'll be watching and checking it for a while though.

Thanks for the help and tips.

Rob

It's a very tasteful 50s NOS 'Airfoil' bug deflector by the Jim Robbins Company of Hazel Park, MI (later the Lion Auto Parts & mfg Co., Inc., of Chicago 16, Ill). See pic of 2 NOS ones. They were extremely popular in the 50s, and I have over 200 different ones.

Here's a selection, but I don't put the best ones on the site, because they aren't for sale:

And the other pic shows my 37T with a VERY tasteful pinky-purple bat one on it...

Correct color for underside of visor is zinc chromate primer. If not available in your local paint store, check with small aircraft supplier, as it is used on airplanes.

Russ,
It is interesting that the visor was a dealer option. The one on my Pacemaker I had assumed was from the factory. So that makes two options ordered by the original owner, the visor and the heater. Was the heater also a dealer installation?. My visor is green on the under side but the car is peacock green so I assumed the underside was green because of that. I didn't know they all came that way. I've learned a lot today.

With Hudson, every time I stand up and say, "That's the way it was . . .", someone steps up and has an example or documentation that states otherwise. However, I have yet to see any proof that the factory ever installed the visors, either the main windshield visors or the sunshields over the side windows. So, that said, I'm setting myself up again to be proven otherwise, but that's alright--- I learn from it.
