What's a set of painted wire wheels for stepdown worth these days?

I don't know what they would be worth today. I back in the 50's my father had a 51 Hornet and bought a set of chrome wire wheels for $125 from a guy that needed money quickly. That solved the problem of full size wheel covers coming off wheels on our vacation trips. I didn't know they were also available painted.

Yes, the step down wire wheels came either chromed or in velchrome paint, or argent as Bernie Siegfried always called it

Does anyone have a close-up pic of genuine OEM Hudson wire wheels?

Mike, I think the last t=me I saw you , you were in Chattanooga! Time flies. Anyway the wire wheels Hudson used were made by Kelsey Hayes as opposed to the standard wheels which were made by Motor Wheel. If exact copies are required try Kanter. They sell a Chrysler wire wheel which is the same as the Hudson wheel. Wire wheel covers are are different animal. Good luck on those.

I have seen many Stepdowns with wires. Some are 'lip-laced' others not. Could not find Kanter's wires on their website. But will call them direct. These wheels are so very expensive would not want to get the 'wrong' ones. Are 48 spokes correct? Thank's to all in advance,
P.S. Lance that was a fine meet and the last one I ever attended.

Have the Chrysler wire wheels on my Hudson, and they fit fine.

I haven't been on here in a while or would have posted sooner.
Mike, these are original Hudson wire wheels. They are lip-laced. It is my understanding the Chrysler wheels are a good substitute.

By "lip-laced" do you mean that the spokes come right out almost to the outer tire flange? (This would make it impossible to use a beauty ring.) I have a painted set by Motor Wheel and the spokes are situated like that. They are 15" and are 5 1/2" between the tire flanges. I was told they came off a late 30's Hudson but really - I have no idea. I was planning on using them on my 48 Hudson. Being painted is a bit of a disappointment although they can be made to look pretty good. Chrome plating them would require complete disassembly of all the spokes and besides the price being astronomical, I doubt I could ever get them back together round, straight and tight - so I'll go with painted! Anyone got a source for the caps?
