Hello Paul
I bought it earlier in the year from a dealer in Scotland, as usual with me, it was unseen. Apparently it belonged to a titled lady who used it sparingly on her estate. Other than that very little history. It is RH drive. When it came down I took it for a spin and broke down. When I got it back to the garage I stripped the fuel pump and carb down and while I was waiting for the service kits I took more bits off and now it has turned into a full restoration, such is life.
What about your car, could you indulge me with some information about that? Thanks for the info. about Dale Cooper. Hopefully he will be able to help, I'm struggling to find somebody to deal with for spares.

Regards Ken

Hi Ken,

I'll have a dig around and see if I can find any details on it for you. The car does ring a bell to be honest and I'm sure I have some notes on it somewhere!

Mine is a 1939 112 which I have known about for over 30 years and I ended up buying off eBay in 2006 when I got laid off from my job. I have had a lot of American cars over the years but dropped out of the scene in the mid-80's. Mine is a labour of love and I hope tjis year to get it driving again; mind you I've said that for the last 7 years or so.

Like yours it's RHD as Hudson had a factory over since 1929 on the Great West Road in Brentford so if you have a LHD model you know it wasn't built here in the UK. Mine was registered on the 1st February 1939.

You might consider joining the HET club ; it costs around £36 per year at current exchange rates and you get access to a great (award winning) bi-monthly magazine and a well stocked library of manuals etc. which are available to download or purchase a hard copy if you want.

There are a number of Australian and NZ members on here so parts are available from them at times; the only problem is shipping. I'll drop you a note of a couple of people to talk to who may be able to help if you need other parts.

In terms of spares etc. there are a number of people in the club who carry these so basically if you need something just ask because you can guarantee that someone somewhere will have it tucked away!

Shipping from the US can be hit and miss in terms of price but generally the smaller stuff (e.g. gaskets etc.) tend to be reasonably priced.

As I said if you have a question ask it here and on the other forum as well because someone will always be able to give you an answer.

Good to see another brit on here; we are small but integral part of the group!

Good afternoon Ken - and welcome to the HET forum. I'm, more or less, Paul's running mate - I scan Hudson literature and he puts it online for me.
I do hope you will join the H-E-T (Hudson-Essex-Terraplane) Club - I've been a member for over 40 years and to show you what sort of club it is I don't have a Hudson of my own. But I've never felt like an outsider. My literature scanning activities are my way of paying back to my Hudson family. And that's what this HET thingy is all about - it's a family club. Sometimes the line between which is more important - cars or the people - gets a little blurred.
My eye caught the mention that your '38 came from Scotland - makes the car and I kindred souls. My grand-day came from Scotland to the U S back around 1903 or so.
You should have some info on your parts needs shortly.

Hudsonly,
Alex B

Now then Alex; you made the same assumption as I did. Ken is actually a member already 🙂

Had a nice chat to him on the phone the other day and I bigged you up as being d'man for the literature. I'm just your gopher 😉

I hope (although I didn't talk about this with Ken so he may move ...) to take a trip across to his neck of the woods in a few weeks so I can go take a look at his car and chew the fat

Alex,

When I read about people thinking of visiting each other (like Paul and Ken above) I look at each person's profile to see where they are, but most of the time I just see "Unknown", which is frustrating! Also when I see a potentially interesting part for sale, information is not always provided as to location.

Can you think of a way that would encourage more people to fill in this information?

Per

Per, It seems to me, or maybe it's my imagination, that more people are putting their names, at least, in the header. I haven't any idea of how to have people put their location like I do. Of course if they leave their name you can always look it up in the HET roster. I just think it's that they don't get around to putting it down when they set up their profile.

Alex B

Alex,

I'm lazy to reach for my roster (sometimes I don't know where it is!). Also there are many new members coming on the forum, who are not yet in the roster.
Can one edit one's profile?

Per

Per,

Yes, one can change their profile quite easily. Click on your name on you avatar. This takes you to your profile page. On the right hand side near the top is an Edit button. This brings a line of things that can be changed. Click on any one of these buttons and make your changes. Then just click on save and you're done.

Hudsonly,
Alex B
