Passing on info. A good replacement for a stepdown coupe/conv trunk spring is from MAC 64-32186. Ford truck model 53 thru 56. Around $26 each
That's good to know. Inexpensive alternative.
Great bit of information to know.
But of course, it will be lost in the vapors almost immediately, since there is no current place we can record this interchange information.
Six months from now, someone will ask, wasn't there an interchange on trunk springs for StepDowns?, and everyone will shrug.
I always use SEARCH to find things that might be here. ie: type in 'trunk springs' and you will see that 3-4 more folks are wanting the springs; any mention of trunk springs over the last 'several' years will show up. What search is for, I thought~
Richard-
That is correct-- as long as this forum is up and running. When this version shuts down or changes, then all the posts will be lost, as they have been through the last 4 or 5 incarnations. Best to print out useful posts in your own Hudson Bible for future use, or simply copy and paste in an ongoing doc and saving in a an accessible place.
Every time an interchange part like this gets identified I write it in my bound book that I also write down and document the progress on my car. Thermostats, ball joints, trunk springs... the more info the better. Now my question is.... is this spring for the sedan as well?
Thanks for identifying this part.
Raymond, A list (copy( of interchange parts such as you are keeping should eventually be in the online library. I'd be happy to do that little chore.
That goes for anybody who has found alternates that work.

Alex,
I have a spreadsheet with part numbers available from various auto parts stores. Data is based on the parts store web sites and applies specifically to a '53 Hornet. I'm sure many also apply to other years. A .pdf copy of my spreadsheet is attached. Anyone is welcome to download it but please understand that the numbers should be checked for any specific application.
Good luck to you Alex in this job. Your efforts are much appreciated.

That's what I do in the swaps book that I bought from the late Lou Backus. Only problem is, it's so old, that the crossover parts are just as hard to find. I'm not too computer literate, but it would be great to offer a modern version to members . This forum is the next best thing. Thanks to all who offer their knowledge.
FYI
12 - 15 yrs ago when I bought my '53 Hornet Cpe in Charlotte the trunk springs were brkn and they were using a broom handle as a prop. I bought a pair of Gas hood Shocks and installed them. They work excellent but of course are not Period correct.Nobody has ever noticed or made a negative comment..
Raymund.
The coupe, convertible lid is larger, therefore heavier. The spring might be a bit stronger than needed, but would probably work.
You must watch that they are not to strong as that will pull the hinge off the lid. You now have a worst problem. Walt.
I sure hope not, Russ; haven't been on here that long but have been on several Marque Forums who have prevented that situation. With $100,000.00 in the bank, it seems to me that a back-up server wouldn't more than would be expected from the HET club !!
