Can someone point me to a manual or photo that shows the correct way to secure the battery, and battery tray to the platform?
It looks like two hooked bolts do the job, but the ones on my car are much too small to secure much at all. The battery and tray slide side to side.

Rob, congrats on your purchase! You will probably have to modify the battery box to somewhat match the battery. Most batteries do not fit the factory batt.box frame because they are smaller in length. If you cut the box to match the battery, you will have trouble getting the hold-down bolts- 5/16th's rods, with hooks at the bottom, and threads at the top, to angle enough to secure through the hold-down. It does really matter what size the battery is. Make sure the battery is the size you require, then modify accordingly. Hope to see you in Frankenmuth!
Rob, as far as you know do you have the original type battery in the car? For the six volt cars there is a "type 1" and a "type 2" available and of course there are scads of 12-volt batteries out there (if you've gone that route), one of two of which might approximate the size of the original battery.
Doug and Jon,
Thank you! 🙂
I won't be able to make the Michigan meet...I'm not retired yet and am out of vacation days this year.
I did get signed up for the National in Colorado though. 2300 mile road trip should prove the car out, good or bad.
Still have lots to look over and check to have a good base line.
The car has a metal support cage upon which sits a metal battery pan. There is a tab at each end which hangs down and it's "U" spared cutout at the bottom corresponds with a similar cutout in the support cage.
The previous owner had a battery that was clamped down at each end using these tabs and a hold down bolt with a bend in the bottom end.
It worked, but allowed the battery to slide sideways.
I'm switching it over to 12 volts to run an A/C, so I'll just fabricate a new tie down system.
Rob
