I'm trying to adjust my valves ('53 Hornet). The manual makes it sound simple to get the inner fender panel off, just remove bolts, support the hood, remove wheel and slide it out the bottom. However, mine seems to get hung up on the hood hinge and other various locations. Also, I'm nervous about hitting the brake hose on the way out and I don't need another problem. What's the secret to getting this panel out?

Thanks in advance,
Ed

Jack it up, install jackstands, remove all bolts holding inner panel, brace hood, remove tire, carefully remove panel ( you have to play with it and move it around for clearance), rebolt lower hood support on fender.
Really not that bad.

Really, it's just a matter of doing it once or twice and getting used to how it works.

I have learned to not trust those hood supports while working on the engine. I keep a piece of PVC schedule 40 water pipe handy to place in the center at the latch.

Thanks for all the comments. I'll try jacking it up higher, maybe this will give me more room.

Edward-

I think it helps when removing if you drop the front before the rear. Reverse to re-install. Also, if you have a canvas skirt on your inner fender, it usually ties to the upper part A-Arm (kind of unusual), and must be first untied.
