Will be getting the clutch on my 30 Coupe re corked and need a few things:

I'll need a new gasket. I've been told it has to be thirty thousands of an inch thick. Where can I get the material to make a new one? Tried a few Hudson people and nobody has it. If I can't find .30, can I use three .10 together?

I've also been told there is fluid in the clutch; where can I get some and how much will I need.

Anything else I should know to tell my mechanic?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Stuart, have you tried Wildrick Restorations? They'd certainly have the clutch fluid (available in bottles that should contain the correct amount). If they don't have a ready made gasket they could surely tell you where to find the gasket material.

Wildrick doesn't have the gasket; didn't ask about the fluid. Are they the only ones for the fluid?

At the moment they're the only ones for the fluid but some guys have used a certain type of ATF. In a pinch, if you live near a Hudson owner you could probably buy, beg or steal one from him, LOL!

Dexron II or Dexron III been using it for many years with no problems. Just don't overfill it. One third only.

Wildrick's website is not real clear; how many bottles of the stuff do I need?

Thanks,

Stu

You can ask Doug or consult your owners manual. Probably just one, though maybe the older cars need more. One bottle is usually sufficient (6 oz. I believe). You definitely don't want to overfill.

I can never get to Doug. Every time I call, they won't pass me through. Whoever answers the phone tries to handle it them self. Not good customer service. I'm getting the impression that they know they're the only game in town and don't give a damn.

Well, I believe you can purchase the same clutch oil from the HET Club Store. As to amount of fluid, did you as the fellow who answered the phone? You may also try your owners manual or shop manual.

Stuart, I'm sorry for the confusion. We DO very much care about our customers, but if you don't leave a message or don't email me, I have no way of knowing you need help. I try to help people as much as time allows. Most of the time I am not available to come to the phone. Most people leave a message and I get back with them, or email them. I will have a talk with our staff about this issue. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
I have been told by some other members that you can take the '34-'54 10" gasket, punch new holes and use it. It is said to be the correct outside diameter?.
