Hi guys,
I'm struggling to find out how many 1946 Hudson big boy pick ups were sent
K N D to south africa ?
I know these are now very rare and would like to try and find out how many might survive,as far as i know mine is ONE of THREE,but out of how many ?? Many thanks for your Help DARREN
Darren, There are no records on how many Hudsons, pickups and cars, were shipped anywhere overseas. Given the fact that the war had just ended, and because there were only 3,104 commercial Hudsons shipped in 1946, I think it's safe to say very few, if any. With the U S winding down the war just about every cargo ship sailing would have been involved in transporting military personel and material so there wouldn't have been much cargo space for anything to do with the civilian market. Also, Hudson, along with everybody else was changing over to civilian production and selling anything that came off the assembly line to dealers in the United States.

Thank you for the information at least i now know how many Hudson trucks were made in 1946
I have since found out that a company in South Africa called Stanley Motors assembled my truck after shipment from the USA but can find no records of numbers assembled in 1946
Many thanks
Darren
South Africa was one of the Hudson "hot spots" around the globe. For some reason, South Africans seemed to like Hudsons, for many were shipped there and there are still a small number around.
Hudson dashboards were symmetrical for many years, which made it easy to shift over to right hand drive. There were Hudson assembly plants in Australia, Sweden and England (maybe South Africa as well?) where "KD" (knocked down for shipment) Hudsons were re-assembled.
There was even a South African company that made the clutch fluid ("Hudsonite") that is required by Hudsons from 1910 to 1954: the fluid is called Savonite and was produced in glass bottles. I think the company was called Savonex. Or I may have that backwards (my bottle is currently in storage so I can't see it!) A fellow from South Africa sent me a bottle and I was very grateful to be able to add it to my collection of Hudsonite cans and bottles!
Thank you for all your useful information,I have been in touch with the Hudson owners club in Australia and as far as there records show they have NO club members with a right hand drive 1946 Hudson pick up and have also been in touch with the Hudson owners club in South Africa,They have informed me that my truck was once registered with them and the former owner sadly died and it disappeared from there records in 2007,
I now have this truck in the UK so it looks like this truck has been on an adventure around the world and have owned it since 2011
Out of the 3.104 trucks made in 1946 i,d say my right hand drive has to be a very rare item indeed
Many thanks for all your information
