Shown here is a pair of starter bolts for Hudson with Hydromatic and a pair of studs for standard shift transmission application.
The Hydromatic appear to be regular grade 5 - 7/16" x 1 1/2 - 14 bolts that can be purchased locally.
The standard shift application are shouldered studs with a collar and serrated edge. 3/8" x 2" -16.
Does the collar "center the stud so that the starter gear is centered on the ring gear or can you just replace them
with grade 5, 2" bolts ?

On all standard trans you must have those studs with the center, as that is what keeps the starters locked tight. With bolts the starter will always work it's way loose. It can ruin a flywheel. Walt.
