Read in Paper where up in Crownpoint, Indiana today they were auctioning off John Dillingers 1933 Essex (That was his preferred robbing car guess they needed get up and go and was dependable lol) Anyone know what it brought? Would make a good story for the Club magazine
My part of the country. I will watch the paper and post results.
Sold at auction May 1 for $25,000. Was not one of Dillinger's cars. See story HERE.
That's called slick marketing. You read the article, the way it's written, and it gives the impression this was one of Dillingers cars. There was another article I read that says Dillinger bought the car they have in 1934. Link is here: http://indianamuseum.org/exhibits/details/id/508
This article Jon posted states that this was a Dillinger era car, giving the impression it was a Dillinger car, which it isn't. Interesting that two very rare Essex-Terraplanes show up at the same time. Tho, I've noticed over the years when somebody comes up with a "one of a kind" or "only two known to exist" Hudson it isn't long before they start coming out of the woodwork.
One time I thought about buying up a bunch of 1934 Fords, shooting them full of holes and pouring chicken blood on the seats for reality and selling them as Bonnie and Clyde replicars. If that was ever done it wouldn't take long for the cars to be touted as the real deal.

We have a genuine bullet hole in the visor on our '51 Hornet. It's fun to make up a new "legend" every time someone asks about it.

From the accompanying story:
"The bureau's Essex Terraplane is the model and year favored by notorious gangster John Dillinger, though it is not one of the cars owned by him"
