Thanks Frank for looking that up.

Hello Russell , let us know how well it runs....your about two years ahead of me. Terry
Looks like I have the same distributor problem on a 308 I'm mounting on a run stand. Using the oil pump timing tool, I have that and the distributor in right. # 1 piston, valves are TDC and flywheel marks are right. But the distributor is 180 out. So, I'll take the distributor apart and turn it 180 as Doug says above.
That's what I did, Kerry. Not too tough, just remember how it all goes back together, and don't lose the little retaining clip in the center of the shaft! Wish I had the tool that easily removes and puts them back in. Not too tough taking out, more trouble trying to insert it back and get it to seat properly.
I just started looking in on this thread and boy am I glad i did. I was going to rebuild my distributor IAT-4009A over the winter and just didn't get to it. After reading this thread, though, I'm happy I waited, because i didn't realize that the end of the distributor that goes into the oil pump is asymmetric. Now i know what all the fuss is about with the rotor pointing to #6 instead of #1. Thanks guys!
Michael-
It makes a difference! I still love it that I learn something new almost every day about these fine cars.
Terry-
Where do I start? The car is running and I am just about floored. I got the timing almost dialed in, maybe 1/2 degree off, but super close. I still have to adjust the twin carbs, but even without being adjusted, I put a tach on the engine and brought it up to where it was idling on it's own. Any engine that can idle around 330 and be so stinkin' smooth is a work of art. Running temp around 150F sitting still. Of course, there was a whole lot of work that went into making that engine breathe better and an inordinate amount of time was spent getting the whole thing balanced. It's all beginning to pay off. The car has not run or moved under it's own power since 1960. Tonight, I slipped it into gear to make sure the tranny was engaging and I rocked it in the garage. So, it's ready to roll out, but I want to have the camera on it when we do it the first time. Will post video here on the forum when it happens. Can't wait to see how this girl handles.
It's been way too long coming. I looked back in my Hudson notebook and found the invoice for the carbs rebuild and Twin-H set up given to me by Walt Mordenti when he re-fabbed the carbs. The date was Oct '09. I've been on this project for the last 8-1/2 years (having started in the fall of '06) for a variety of reasons, not least of which I started with nothing more than the desire (and some ugly bits of rust). Ironic, really. It's taken longer to restore it than the entire time it spent on the road in it's first life. There's a few bugs to work out. Got a small exhaust leak at the collector. Have to replace the gasket. All the lights and circuits work, but don't have brake lights (I realized tonight). Got to figure that one out. . . . dial in the carbs. The list is still long, although I started putting some of the interior in as I want to get the windshields installed. Little more to go on the hydraulics before I can test all of that.
Afterwards, it was getting late and we still hadn't eaten so we jumped in our other Hudson and went down to the local pizza parlor. When I came out with my pizza, there were a dozen people standing all around the car with about half of them with their phone/cameras out. One of the young girls asked me what it was like to drive it and I gave my standard answer: There's nothing like it in the world-- like riding on clouds. These cars were the finest automobiles to ever come out of Detroit and it's truly an honor to drive it and share it with everyone.
We'll road test it on a few short runs, then a medium sized run before we take it to Colorado for the National. That will really be it's debut. No, I didn't make Pontiac like I once thought I might, but Colorado Springs will be just fine. Just fine indeed.
Russell,
Congratulations! 🙂
Sounds like you've really earned this!
(and still found time to help other Hudson people)

Yes ; great news indeed Russ and congratulations
Nothing like that feeling of getting something running just so!
Great news, Russ and congratulations! That first drive around the block will be something to behold. You know you have something special when ordinary folks who know nothing about cars stop and stare! I look forward to the video. Terry
WHOO-WHOOOOOOOO !!! Make sure that you put in 8 qts of trans fluid, start it, then start adding the other gallon . All 12 will not fit all at once. Great News Russell !!!!
Great news! What a journey! Thrilled to hear you are in the testing phase! Doug
