OK. It was too late to take the Pacemaker to an exhaust shop as I tried to tackle the job myself.

Boy what an undertaking just to get the one-piece tube out. I ended up cutting it.

I see where the muffler is an addition with a standard for the era clamp.

As I have the local shop bend some tube for me, where else is a good place to joint so I can more easily install it myself?

You should see the 'DOUBLE' pipes in my '53; I didn't put them in and I can't imagine how it was done. Would hate to ever have to take them out !!! No joints except at the header connections ! Not much room in a step-down between the frame rails ~~~

Ed,

Here's where the exhaust joint is on my 1950 Pacemaker. Hope this helps!

Thank you. John. I will double check my pile of pipe. I do not recall a joint in my pipe at the location.

But that is about where I need to have one based on what I am remembering from working on it yesterday.

Thanks John for posting that picture. My pipes were pre-bent and needed too be installed which I did myself along with with the muffler which fits tight at the end. I seem to remember that I had to jack the rear end up so I could get the pipe around the kickup over the rear axle. I had my auto body shop guy weld the collar on to fit the exhaust manifold when he was helping me fit the fenders and hood. I took my car to the local muffler shop and had them put a chrome tip on the end which has worked out great and looks nice. If it helps, I can take some pictures of my exhaust system as well. 1950 Pacemaker Deluxe.

Some may want to see my 'tight-fit' dual pipe system with headers.
