[quote="Jason Jellis" post=9942]Hello,
I traced all the wires and discovered I had a wiring issue.

Jason
What was your wiring issue. I'm having the same problem.

Hello, I originally found I had a bad ground.
I did get the gauge to move but it still does not read correctly.
I have a car that has been converted to 12 volt and uses the original gauge.
I put a 12 volt to 6 volt reducer before the gauge. I did connect it originally directly from the sender and the gauge went much higher. (possibly correct) but I was afraid of burning up the gauge since I was feeding it with 12 volt.

Paul, should this be a concern? Maybe I do not need the voltage reducer.

Thanks for your help.

Jason, what's the voltage now at the gauge input terminal? (or the output of the voltage reducer)

Hi. The output of the reducer is 6 volt. Thanks

Paul

Do you still sell the fuel tank sending units?

Jason

My gauges are sitting almost all the way to the right & don't move at all. I know that the needles are not stuck because I took the gauges out of the casing & the needles moved freely but stayed over to the right.

J

I thought the needles on a '53 were at the left side when "at rest."

As I stated before the needles on my 50 rest to the right, the needles on my 51 & 54 rest to the left. If yours hang from the top, then you have the wrong gauges. I don't know if it's possible but maybe you have the gauges installed upside down. 😆

The gauges point up but they sit to the right whether the ignition is off or on & they don't move off that point. this is completely opposite of where they are supposed to sit with the ignition off and when the ignition is turned on they don't move at all. Another electrical dilemma.

PS this also goes for the temp. gauge

I just reread this post. If the needles stay to the right with the gauge out of the car then it's time for new gauges. Either they are the wrong ones or someone blew them trying to change something around.

Good Luck

Eddie

When I bought the car from Bill Albright someone had tried converting it to 12v so maybe your right something happened to the gauges. I'll have to try and find some gauges and replace them.

PS I'm keeping it a 6v system
