David,

I assume that with your adjustments, you had free play at the top of the travel of the pedal.
When you first start off, is the clutch engagement smooth, or does it grab a little?
I had a '46 Hudson six where it grabbed, no matter how careful I was. Also, the clutch almost slipped.
Finally I took it apart and discovered that there were no corks left at all! I made a mitre box to cut corks to 3/16, put them in the disk, and it worked well.
The thickness of the metal disk is only about a sixteenth of an inch. With corks, three-sixteenths of an inch. The springs in the pressure plate without corks are therefore extended beyond their normal length, and not able to provide as much squeezing of the disk as is normal. It is also possible that the clutch was run without fluid and severely overheated, weakening the springs.
I think sending the clutch parts out for new corks, new seals in the release bearing, and adjustment/repair of the pressure plate is a good idea.
There are some topics from about a year ago which show and discuss wear of the external clutch linkage, and of the shaft that moves the clutch release bearing (throwout bearing). You can use that information to check those parts after you have taken things apart. Since your car is quite low mileage (about 53,000 miles if I remember correctly?) there is probably no significant wear of those parts.

It's great that you may be able to attend the Colorado meet. My wife Rose and I check into the hotel at the meet on Tuesday, and we check out on Saturday morning. So there's an overlap Thursday evening through Saturday morning. I'll have my cellphone (which I only use when traveling) turned on. Its number is 857 225 0600.

John,
Thank you for that information. I will take a look at what they have. It seems to me the only flex line will be up front in the engine compartment. The steel line/fitting in the back mates up very close to the tank pick up tube. I made my own pickup tube so it mounts directly to the the fuel tube going to the front. I figure that is how the original pick up tube was also. I would still like to find an original or NOS pick up tube but I feel that is very unlikely to locate. Thanks again.

Per,
When I received the car there was only a few drops that came out of the clutch when I attempted to drain it. When adjusting the linkage by the procedural manual there wasn't enough engagement to move the car inside my shop on a level floor. I am all but sure there isn't much cork left on the clutch.
I will call you once we arrive at the meet. As it stands We plan to get to our hotel Wednesday evening. I so look forward to this and meeting you and others in person. Thanks for all your advice.

David,

How are you? I hope your recovery has been complete. Have you worked on the clutch?

David, we stock all the clutch parts and pieces you may need. What size of fuel tank does your car have?. Is your car a SWB or LWB ?, does it come straight out of the tank or does it turn 90 degrees, we probably have that as well. Give us a call at 317-398-4163, Mon-Fri 8-4:30P
