This is a bypass type thermostat. Is yours a bypass system? If so, then I believe this is the correct thermostat.

Thanks for the reply. I would consider it a bypass system, but I am loading a couple of pictures. I also had my generator recently rebuilt. I noticed when I took it in that the fan on the front of the generator had the fins laid down. They told me they straightened the fins but had to add a spacer to allow the rotor to move. I now have an alignment issue with the belt. I have tried arranging the bracket for the generator other ways but it seems to me to be a one way fit. I do have the correct generator GEC 4801 A. any suggestions on this would be great also.

You don't appear to have the bypass type system, so the thermostat won't work.

Here is a photo of a 1937 Terraplane with the bypass (similar six cylinder to yours). Note that the water pump has a cast outlet on the top, where a hose runs horizontally back to an inlet casting on the water outlet neck at the cylinder head. Your water pump doesn't have this extra outlet casting, nor does your neck have the mating inlet as shown in the photo below.

Your thermostat will look more like this:

I'm sorry I don't have a current number (my car has the bypass type) but someone will probably step in here to give it to you. They are not hard to find and shouldn't cost much.

David, I will look and see if I have athermostat number. Think I replaced my 41 which is just like yours. I better understand your generaltor belt issue after seeing the picture, Why do people change these things without asking. You need to go back to original style fins/pulley I think. I will recheck the mounting. I don;t think there's a housing adjustment you can do for that other than to loosen and tighten the generator.

Thanks Tim, I have seen pictures of others that show the fins of the generator fan in the upright position. Maybe the generator fan isn't the correct one for my generator. I know with the fins laid down like the were before the generator was reworked it was still probably moving some air, it just seems wrong.
