Russ, thanks for your feedback - can you please explain what your mean with ' Are you having a blast'?
Haven't come across that phrase yet...
Mike - Carburator - yes likely needs some service. Agility is not a suitable current attribute of the Commander. On the other hand - the hand break was still partlialy pulled..
"Are you having a blast?" means, "are you having a lot of fun?"
Like a blast from the past, Daddy-O! LOL!
Like, wild man. The grooviest. Like crazy, Daddy-O

Hold on guys - now it is understood.
Did I have fun - honestly - to a certain degree. If you drive your new oldie the first time hot knowing what hidden surprises are waiting for you, not knowing all the features of the car (how to operate it propperly) - that is when all your senses are on alert.
But as these cars have survived so long and the technology is moderate - I have counted on the solid build of the car.
There had been some hard clongs from the front axle when driving on rough road - but meanwhile sow that the bushing of the cross bar slipped out - so will be a quick fix.
Yesterday I did check the body with a magnet and - 98% well sticking magnet. Just on the driver door the magnet is a bit soft - I suppose a repaired dent from the parking lot.
So - overall a very solid basis. Once it will be warm enough I need to do a lot of cleaning and polishing on paint and chrome.
And really not ok is the electrical setup - but that is a matter of time to detect the problem point....
So I will have fun very soon !!!
Shorty,
There is supposed to be a little spring that holds the gasoline filler door closed, and also keeps the door open, after you open the door. This is a special spring. You can buy one from Paul Schuster.
Fuses:
* At least one fuse on the switch for the headlights.
* One fuse on the overdrive relay
* One fuse along the wire to the clock
* One fuse along the wire to the heater
* One fuse along the wire to the radio
The power to the heater should only work when the ignition switch is on.
The power to the radio may only work when the ignition switch is on, or may always be on.
The power to all the light switches, and to the clock, is always on.
Inside the car, just behind the knob for the radio antenna, there is a light. From what you say, this light has been covered. Does the car have a new headliner? This light has a switch on it. It seems like this switch is turned on.
Is this the bump you are talking about that is near the center of the windshield, or is there a bump on the outside of the car?
I'm glad that you are enjoying the car, and that the car is in good condition.
Per
heater and radio inline fuses are 14A. Don't know about clock. There are 2 circuit breakers. One on light switch and one above steering column behind instruments on driver side.
Thanks for the hints regarding the electrical issues.
Can someone post a picture of the interior lamp of the 50 Commodore above the antenna knob?
And - where do I get that lamp? Ebay or is there someone that sells that still?
I have to suppose that the head liner has been replaced and the light not put in place.
I was also told by a collegue that a bulb was put into a car to overcome if the car has mass/ground issues...
Seal for the rear quarter windorws - does anyone have a source for theses?
And the same question regarding the front triangular windows - are these still available? I do have a catalogue of ~ 199.. where it was listed as a spare part?
Additional question: what mat or carpet was used in the trunk? Vinyl? Special designs?
Thanks for your input !!

Here a picture of the busing that slipped out of position..

here the picture of my cockpit. On the top above the knob of the antenna --> that is where there should be a lamp?

yes; photo of what you have there now??
Dirk,
The inside of your car in the photo you just posted is too dark to see what is there - or is not there. Please block the window, or take a photo at night, so the area near the antenna knob is visible.
I am now confused about where the light is you say is always on unless you disconnect the battery. From what you said at first, it seemed that the light is covered up by the headliner, and is near the antenna knob. Please post a photo and describe the light more.

Dirk here is a picture of the light above the antennae knob. This one is available if you need it. The bezel is lightly pitted but the glass lens is in excellent shape. The clock takes a 3 amp SFE fuse. The lens and bezel were removed from a '51 Commodore but it looks identical to the one in my '50 Commodore. Terry
Terry, thanks for the offer! I am interested. Can you make me an offer please!
The picture is taken when the battery was already dead, thus the bulb behind the headliner was not shining through..
How is the brezel / light basement fixed to the roof / headliner in that area?
And - where is the exact position?
I want to put the light there where it belongs - for that I will have to make a cut in the headliner .... therefore it should be at the right location...
Pictures of that area of your '50 or '51 versions are very welcome!
I will have access to the car again on the weekend - then I can make another picture with the bulb shining through the headliner.
Again thanks for your support and input!!
Dirk the housing that holds the bulb and the small switch are spot welded to the roof header area. If you have a bulb in there, the housing should still be attached but you are correct...you will have to cut a small area in the headliner to accommodate the bezel and lens which just snaps into the spot welded housing. The bezel and lens are approximately 6.5 cm x 18 cm and I believe the bulb is in the middle of the housing. I have never shipped anything overseas but here's the deal....I'll give you the parts- you pay for shipping and someday in the future, you join the HET club. I'm located in Minnesota, area code 55804 Terry
