Planning for the future. Picked up a complete 1951 Pacemaker drivetrain from a vehicle i knew was previously being driven. Owner needed a more modern drivetrain and the engine had begun to miss and stumble. Far outer bolt between intake and exhaust manifold broke loose and took a chunk of the casting with it. I know these manifolds are know to crack but more so in the pre heater section under the carb. So- i will buy a good used intake or whom would people suggest weld the casting and true the surface? Have not fully disassembled to determine full damage extent.
I am located in NW Indiana- also open to other suggestions on intake ( NOT CLifford i want to keep close to stock and mileage). It is a 232 1bbl OD- no supermatic, drivemaster etc. Engine clean- no leaks, believed under 70K miles. 232 head appears to be late 51/52 production iron high compression suspected, 304819 919 or similar- only reference that matched number was on a modified 308 in another posting. Not in any Hudson parts books,or Hollander, block casting # matches period 232/262.

Scott,
Take a look at the clearance of the exhaust valves. If you find only a couple of thousandths instead of around 10 on some of them, it would have been the cause of the poor running of the engine. Upon warming up there would be no clearance left, and these valves would stay open a little, causing a lot of loss of compression.
If this is the problem, it will be a much easier fix than other things that could cause poor running!

I should have a good used manifold for that engine. PM me.
Any interest in selling the OD - single lever right? Thanks. m.limpert@comcast.net
Max, maybe sellling OD single lever I will know after January 1, 2015.
Please let me know. Thanks.
PM was sent, waiting to hear back Thank you
If you plan on setting the valves, set them cold at intake 0.014 and exhaust at 0.017. Because todays gas is make to run hot and valves lose a few thousands clearance. Walt.
