Question regarding the throttle linkage on a 1948 Commodore 8:
Please see the attached picture. What pulls the linkage arm that travels in the curved slot (on the right side of the engine) back to the neutral position? When I release the gas pedal, the throttle does not return completely to the idle position. Someone had wired something temporarily to fix this, and that wire broke. Am I missing a spring somewhere?

Thanks,
Josh
I'm still looking for some guidance on this issue. The throttle does not return correctly upon release.
Looks like you're missing the torsion spring on the shaft at the top of your pic.
Thanks -
I put on a supplementary spring anchored near the firewall - it works, but I don't think its right. Could someone post a picture of what this should look like for a 8 cylinder 48?
Josh,
My 49 commodore 8 originally had Drive Master. Someone along the line deleted the DM. I have a pile of stuff on hand to re-install it. In the mean time, here are some pics of my throttle linkage that seems to work. hope it helps.
David,
Many thanks for those photos! The linkage looks like a mixture of original and modified components. I see the upper spring that looks like it might have been added (shown clearly in the second photo). I have added a spring in this area, and it seems to be working.
