Heidi Hetzer is driving a 1930 Hudson 8 on a long trip. She started in Berlin a couple of months ago, and is now in Uzbekistan, heading towards China, and then South.
HET members have already been helpful with information about putting corks in the clutch, and supplying a connecting rod!
Her website is www.heidihetzer.de
The website is in German, but lots of pictures are being posted, as well as hour-by-hour tracking about the position of the car.
The car's nickname is HUDO.

Heidi Hetzer is driving her 1930 Hudson. She started her trip in August in Berlin, Germany, intending to drive around the world. She reached China a few days ago. Mechanical problems and sometimes difficulty with getting visas extended while fixing the car, have delayed her intended schedule.
She is taking many photos, so even though what she writes is in German, I'm finding it interesting to follow her progress.

Perhaps you could offer us a hyperlink so we could enjoy the photos as well.
[My apologies! He did include one, in the first posting!]

I opened Google translator and was able to convert the text. A little stilted but very interesting reading. I did it in bits and pieces so as not to overload the screens.
The photo's themselves are stunning - one almost imagines themselves looking a a trip being taken in 1930. The gang in New Zealand will have to go some to top this trip - not to mention that Essex trip written up in the WTN a while back.

Heidi Hetzer in her 1930 Hudson 8 will soon leave China. She is near the northern boundary of Laos now.
The latest photos can be seen with English captions by using Google Translate. To reach google translate, enter "google translate" in your search engine. When you are in google translate, tell it that you want to go from German to English. Then enter heidi's website, www.heidihetzer.de
and click on "translate".
When you get to the website, click on "News - blog posts". Scroll down and you will see "More photos from China". Click on one of them to enlarge it, and then use the arrows at the sides to scroll through them. Each one has a caption.
double post, solved!
Patrik
Patrik,
I am glad that many HET club members are offering advice. I just sent a message to Carl Weber, who has a 1930 Hudson and many parts. I told him to take a look at the HET Forum to see what has been happening.
Hopefully the car has been repaired well enough to reach New Zealand, where Geoff Clark can fix it properly.
It seems to me a good idea to get a 12 volt generator which is the same diameter as the original generator, and should align properly. I agree with you that misalignment is the likely cause of the housing breaking.

Amazment: Been following my friend, Herman Zapp, as he and wife AND four kids they birthed on the way travel for the last 10 years. They have driven their 1928 Graham Paige with wooden wheels from Argentina to Alaska, all thru China and Africa. Check them out on the net.

Richard,
I took a look at the website. What a fantastic thing to do! From the front, their 1928 Graham Paige looks somewhat like Heidi's Hudson.
Heidi has just finished crossing Laos, and is at the border with Thailand.

Heidi is in Santa Barbara until sometime in July when the Hudson gets off the ship.
Here is an up to date discussion on Heidi and her progress across the United States:
Rather than run discussions on both Forums concurrently, may I suggest that we "default" to the "Open Forum" discussion which is linked above?
NOTE: apparently the "links" insertion device on this forum no longer work. If you will please copy ;/ paste the following into your address bar, it will take you there: http://forum.hetclub.org./discussion/167485/heidi-hetzer-and-her-1930-hudson-now-arrived-la-usa#latest
On Windows 8 (& maybe other O S ) highlight link, then right mouse to open dropdown menu & choose "open in a new tab"
Works for me as it uses the Operating System software to make the change rather than then forum software
check on link ??
sorry: couldn't cancel~~~
