Hi Everyone;
I haven't had any luck finding a replacement door for my car. The door was taken off ostensibly for repair of the leading edge many years ago. Instead of being repaired it was set aside and left leaning against a shed. The contact with the ground rotted off the bottom of it, including the inner structure.
I am going to use the bottom section of a sedan door. I will stretch it to the length of a coupe door by adding an 11 inch patch in the middle. My reason for stretching it there is the absence of the compound curves that occur in the inner area of the front and rear of the door. I test fit the sedan door on my coupe. The leading, top, and bottom edges all line up and it appears they share the same contour, basically, the sedan door is a coupe door with the rear 11 inches removed and the latch mechanism and b pillar moved forward. I will make an honest attempt to repair the leading edge of my door but if that doesn't go well I will use the leading edge of the sedan door. This job will require cutting, mig welding, hammer on dolly and leadwork, which I really enjoy. But I've never worked on a Hudson so I appreciate any advice. Thanks,
Steve

Are you attempting this repair because you simply cannot find a usable coupe door? Have you tried contacting some of the Hudson vendors who advertise in the WTN? Especially some in the Western states where rust is not a problem? Coleman in Montana? Vintage Coach in California?
Hi Jon
I really would prefer to find a good door. I have checked every vendor in Hemmings and I already recycled it so I can't go back and cross reference. One fellow on the forum was going to check a yard in Idaho but I haven't heard back from him yet. I will call the fellows you recommended tomorrow on the chance they don't advertise in Hemmings.
Thank you for the help.
Steve
I would think Scott Crowder would have at least a few coupe doors on hand. Wildrick Restoration would another one to try.
You would be lucky to find coupe doors because two door Hudsons are worth saving in most any condition.
No doubt about it. It's tougher to find the 2-Dr parts (doors included), but they're out there. Just have to look hard and have perseverance.
I'd definitely be contacting WTN advertisers. Hemmings is fine,as far as it goes, but the WTN has a concentration of Hudson-only stuff.
I am going to need to join the Club to get the WTN so I can access these suppliers.
I don't know where it went but earlier someone posted a very good idea and that is to use two sedan door bottoms and splice them to the coupe door length. That way I don't even need to form a patch panel. I have access to another sedan door at no cost so that seems like a pretty good way to go on this. Great Idea whoever posted that! Why didn't I think of that?
Hi Russ:
How would I contact Scott?
Thank You
Steve
My brother, Dale Brintnall has a pair of decent 50 coupe doors for sale. Not sure what he wants for them. We are in Mass, could transport to Hershey,a in a couple of weeks. I will ask him the price.
Tom Brintnall
Thank You Tom
I will hold off on my door project till I hear from you.
Steve
Just to expand your parts source. All 48 thru 53 two door and coupes use the same skin. :cheer:
Another Hudson supplier got back to be today. He told be he doesn't have any coupe doors or even any coupe parts cars. He writes that they are very rare and difficult to find. I owned a 58 Plymouth Fury for thirty years and parts were very difficult to locate for it because of the popularity of building Christine replicas. I kept mine original. I wonder if the same thing is happening with Hudson Coupes because the interest in the Fabulous Hudson Hornets. I went ahead and picked up my second sedan door yesterday just in case I cant get a coupe door. I wish I could find the post that suggested splicing two sedan doors. That is a great idea!
Sorry, Steve, haven't been on in a few days. I couldn't locate Scott's number, but I did come up with an email:
HETscottcrowder22@aol.com (drop the HET).
