I am in need of a radiator for my 51 Pacemaker. I can use a 3 or 4 pass radiator but just tried to have the spare I had cleaned up and checked out and found it and the one in the car to be un-repairable. Does anyone have a known good one they want to sell or is there a drop in one like the B200 dodge suggested by someone in June ??
I do know of the alum aftermarket ones, but the cost is too high.
Thanks, Bobby
In NC; most all radiator shops will use the top and bottom tanks and put a new high efficiency core between them, the same size a the original. But don't think I have seen this referred to on this forum. Ask the question.

Thanks Dick but I have a friend here in MN that does that, for a price. The price of the material is the problem, not the availability. It is copper and brass and the price is through the roof. Looking at $500 to $700 to do one in 4 row and not much less for 3 row. I would love to do that, but, if I was going to cough that much money, I would go for the new alum. ones that are under $500 and will last forever. and are lighter, and leave more room for condensors for Air and a fan later. I am looking for Orig. equipment first, and I hope a friend is coming forward with his spare. We in MN are so nice, we do that for a friend. Now if his goes, I better have a spare for him at the time.
Thanks to all for the help, but I think I have what I need to acquire one.. Bobby
Griffin Aluminum radiators are $745. Original radiator was sent to them for exact measurements.

This guy can build one for us for $450 to $500 and it is exactly same dimensions.

E mail me and I will send you the print. Or tell me how to put a PDF file on the forum. thanks.

After a moment of silence, We will now all applaud for our new source of after market Hudson radiators. Long live the Step downs.
I sent CG&J a radiator from a 52 and they are made the print using a CAD file program.
they are building a new radiator for 545.00 with a high efficiency 2.75" core.

The radiator came in and looks very good.

Wow. Looks great. I think they can expect a lot of bidness from our club. I had a local guy re due a 49, my friend had and it was good for now. But the next one is going to be this guy. I am painting mine Black of course.
Robert, they can grind and finish the welds for extra if wanted. I'll probably spray this one black as well but it hurts efficiency a little when painted.
Stay away from painting those radiators black or even the Hudson radiator. They stay cooler by 20 degrees and help when you are in stop and go traffic. That is the reason I was able to drive my car to Oklahoma in 113 degree weather and never got vapor locked. Paint keeps the heat in. Forget all original, this is 2014 not 1951. Walt.
Why wouldn't you install a 6 blade fan with a more aggressive pitch before you put the radiator in? More air the better~~
OH, you could paint the top tank black if you wanted to without a problem; I didn't paint mine since I am not original with A/C anyway !!
Richard, that is the plan. I was just doing a test fit.
The engine and tranny are coming out for a rebuild.
Napa has the best selection for upgrading your old radiator . The cooling of an aluminum rad out performs the ole copper by leaps an bounds . Use a 1987 dodge tradesman van radiator works better than the original back in the day . Will need to adjust your hose size a bit but it fit well . If you need more info , air62dave@gmail.com
