Hello all, we are now in another town with much better Shop but probably with even bigger problem.
We definitely killed our nr. 7 connecting rod bearing due to heavy abuse...

Does anybody has a source fo an 1930 Great Eight bearings?

Help needed in Usbekistan..
There is an airport here in Buchara so we could airmail them.

Patrik Hudo and Heidi

There is no separate bearing. The bearing is babbitted (or "poured"). It is part of the connecting rod.

The best solution is to find a shop where new babbitt can be poured into the rod.

You must determine the diameter of the "journal" (the portion of the crankshaft to which the connecting rod is located). Then, the connecting rod with its new babbitt, must be machined so that its opening will precisely match the diameter of the journal.

The alternative is to purchase a new or re-babbitted connecting rod and have it shipped to you. However, the babbitting on this "new" connecting rod must match the diameter of the crankshaft.

These rods may be available in America, or in England. In England, the Hudson engine was used in the "Railton" automobile, so there is an active club of Railton owners and they are re-making many of the Hudson engine parts. But the Hudson engines used in their cars, may be of a newer vintage.

First: ask your local mechanic if he can send the rod to a place where new babbitt can be poured. He probably already realizes this!

(If you have the opportunity to purchase additional re-babbitted rods, you would be wise to do so. Many of us Hudson owners carry with us a number of replacement parts in our cars -- especially on long trips!)

Hello Jon,
all our friend at home work on our problem (thanks to the internet) one found a link on ebay
Ebaylink

IS THIS probably the one that we need??
Its said that there are different conrods for Cyl. 1,3,5,7 and 2,4,6,8 as the oidippertubes are different...??

Whats your experience ??

Patrik

I do not know if the Ebay rod is the correct one. Without a part number attached to it, it is difficult to say.

I have e-mailed a gentleman (who owns a 1930 Hudson and also sells Hudson parts) to ask him which connecting rods will fit your car. There is a possibility that rods from 1930 to 1939 might fit. This would be very good news indeed, because the rods from 1936-39 are very plentiful!

I will post my results here, when the gentleman has replied -- tomorrow.

Yes, the conn rods are different, as you indicate. 1, 3, 5, 7 are "right" rods and the original Hudson part number is #65305. 2, 4, 6, 8 are "left" rods and the original Hudson part number is #65304. You will notice that your rod shaft is offset toward either one end of the bearing, or the other. You must note which cylinder your bad conn rod came from (counting from the front cylinder closest to the radiator, I believe). Then you will know which rod to look for: a "right" or a "left".

Hello Jon
We examined the damage again today an we definitely need a new complete conrod nr7 so an uneven nr.
I messured the crankshaft with 49.05 or 49.10 mm I do not know what this is in inch but probably you can tell me if it is still standard or smaler than that. .
