clutch failure.
Have to replace linings.
Have Instructions, but no experiences.
1. Try failed with not dividing? ? cluth.
Probably the cork was to thick ?
Ideas?
Cheers Patrik from Urganch Usbekistan
Patrik,
I'm glad I'm not the one stuck in Uzbekistan looking for a clutch fix on a 1930 Hudson. Hopefully someone with clutch experience can respond on a reasonable fix given that you're unlikely to have access to the correct equipment there. Looks like you've been around that part of the world -- how did you enjoy Baku? Was there last year myself.
Patrik,
Tim is correct, your corks are too thick. I once replaced the corks. I made a sort of miter box to cut them all to the same dimension (3/16 inch or 4.8 millimeters). It worked fine. This was back at the time when medicine was sold in a little glass bottle with a cork in it. I bought the corks at a medical supply store.
If the seal on your throwout bearing (clutch release bearing) is leather you can use a mixture of gear oil, motor oil and kerosene in the clutch, as was done when the clutch was new. However if the seal has been replaced, then use automatic transmission fluid.
Make sure to keep enough clutch fluid in the clutch. If it leaks, add some often. I just completed a 17,000 kilometer trip in a 1949 Hudson. The clutch seal was leaking, and I added 4 ounces (120 milliliters) of automatic transmission fluid every two or three days.

Patrik,
Would love to know more about what your route will be once you have time and can get past this issue. Wishing you the best of luck. I don't know how well the camels can tow old cars out there if you get stuck.
Per: Sometime I hope you can tell us more about your trip with Dan McNichol around the US. What will he do with his Hudson now, any ideas?
Patrik & Heidi ; an impressive journey and one I wish you both well on.
I like the website you have up with the GPS on there ; I will be following your progress over the coming months and indeed years!
Good luck and I hope the clutch gets sorted soon
Heidi and Patrik, I enjoyed your pictures with the Georgian flag and also the Flame Towers in Baku. Interesting light show there every evening! You are both in my thoughts and wishes. Please keep us informed of your progress. After reading further on your blog, I'm intrigued even more and will do further reading. I'm not sure why you chose the Hudson, but it has already traveled a long distance. Quite impressive! Hopefully the Hudson Club will give you a big welcome when you eventually journey across America and Canada.
Yes, if you plan to journey across the US and / or Canada, please alert us with your schedule, so that Hudson enthusiasts can come to cheer you along! Or maybe to help you with spare parts!
Hello Hudson fans from all over the world.
We managed to get Hudo back on to the Usbekistan roads and hat a good test drive yesterday to Xhiva, a beautiful little town on the SILKROAD !
Car seems to run very good and I personalty learned a lot from these local mechanics!
So we are today on the way to Buchara and then Samarkand and Tashkent!
Our plans are to come to the States in spring/summer 2015.
So we should stay in touch and it would be a GREAT pleasure to meet some of you on our tour though US, Canada, and then south to Mexico.
Cheers and hope to see you soon
Patrik and Heidi

Tim, Dan and Pers trip around the US was written up in the WTN - I forgot what issue but it seems it was recently.

Hello Hudson friends,
we are meanwhile reached Buchara and Hudo developed a hardly "knocking" noise from somewhere in the rear to cylinders.
I could not locate it yesterday but HOPE that it might be just an problem with the valve clearance/adjustment. As it is mostly under load and somtimes nearly disappears in lower revs my hopes are that we did not killed one of the main or push rod bearings...
unfortunately the mechanics who preped the car have taken out the oil pressure gauge an instead of that I have just a unreliable little lamp that flickers from time to time adn an oil temp gauge that reads ALLWAYS below 60-70 C (outside temps are around 35-40 C! so could not be true..
We will find a car repair shop and will have a look behind the valve cover...
Ok that's it for the morning, I have to go for breakfast and caring about "Hudo"
cheers and thanks for your advise and help
Patrik

Patrik, the little lamp is the way they came from the factory. Hudson introduced idiot lights in 1930.

Hello Alex
thanks for the info.
I have just the stuff from the net and know the car since 3 weeks.
So as even my little 1974 MGB has an oi pressure gauge I am somehow irritated. .what car makers think sometimes.
Ok it is what it is so we live with it..
We have to go to the repair shop...
Bye
Patrik,
Your MGB was a pressure lubricated engine so the gauge was meaningful but they are not of much use in a splash lubricated engine such as your Hudson. The lamp may flash at low rpms, especially when hot. This isn't indicative of a problem, it's just how is is in a "Splasher" Hudson.
Hi Frank,
thanks for that info, seems I'am to young for this stuff :cheer:
But probably was this "splash" lubrication the problem with the bearing when on of the conrod oildiptupes came of the lower Bearing and the Bearng itself was out of oil from the sump...
Hudo is now a 7 Cylinder..
Patrik
