SOLVED: backing up 'blindfolded' at night !!! Stock or basically any kind of back-up lights do not adapt to the later step-downs. This is a fantastic solution. These are 2" diameter 55 watt driving lights sold by O'Reilly's; haven't found them at another place yet. With 12 volt H3 bulbs when bought but 6 volt H3 bulbs are available.
Look at this and think about it. I haven't finished wiring yet; will try to use a lever brake light switch or a neutral start lever switch on the linkage. A lighted manual switch comes with item.
Suggest relay & #12 wire.
An EXCELLENT appearance at the rear !!!

If your car is automatic the switch at the bottom of the steering column has the back up light connection. Walt.

Can't find any switch at end of steering {only horn wire}. Have a switch at the end of shifter, but think its only function is the neutral switch, but it might be both in one--don't know.

All automatic's have the switch. It's a neutral safety switch so car can only be started neutral. It has a third post to connect a wire for the back up lights. When ignition is turned on it powers the switch. Walt.

PROJECT COMPLETE !!! For a 'wrap': the auto neutral switch has 2 extra male connectors that have continuity with selector in reverse. So, connect 'switched' power to one and connect the other to #86 on a relay; #30 & #87 are the power connections to the relay. Use #12 wire back to the back up lights; ground lights to bumper/body.
They are extremely bright; basically LEGAL 55 watt driving lights. Photo below was taken with engine NOT running--volts would have been 14.5+ then and lights would have been brighter. You will get the idea tho. This has been a good project with the Hornet. Sorely needed if you drive at night; I don't much but now I CAN ~~~~~~~
