Hello Eric,
Has the trunk area been re-sprayed as well? I don't think you can use the Hudson vin to determine color like you canon later cars. If you have to, you can pull the vin tag off (held in place by the three "screw" type tacs or nails) and see what color is under the tag.
It looks like the door area rubber seals were painted over as well. Lift up one and see if you can see the original color. Wildricks carries new rubber seals.

Erik,

I think the code may be stamped on the upper passenger side hinge, front door. 1 letter if one color, or 2 if two-tone. You may have to get out a wire brush and work at it to be able to see it. Of course, if you start taking the newer paint off, you'll see how many layers and repaints there have been and can get an idea of the original color. Look here for paint codes:

I believe the only two color combinations for a '51 Hollywood were : Cornish Cream bottom with green top OR a gray bottom and Bali blue roof. Terry

I've never heard of a limitation on the colors; I think you could get any Hornet in the available colors/2 tones for that year.

Also, Erik, you can get a new serial number tag from the club store to replace yours which has wear and primer on it.

They also painted them in solid colors. Roy Marks has a Commodore 8 '51 Hollywood that was in my home area for most of it's life that was Bali Blue, and I remember my Dad selling a Super 6 Hollywood in Black.

I read somewhere in the online manual achieves about the Hornet Hollywood only being painted the two combinations for 1951...I'll dig around and find it. This information was a factory bulletin released in June or July of'51 if memory serves me right. Terry

Erik, Go to the online achieves and find "1951 Car Distribution Department Bulletin" and scroll down to page 28 and it states the only two color combos for the new Hollywoods were to be French Grey with Bali Blue top or Corinthian Cream and Jefferson Green top. It also gives a two letter code for these two combinations....RE for the French Grey and I can't remember the other- I'm getting old. This bulletin was dated 3-15-1951. Terry

Walt here, 73 is French Gray, Lacquer # 2618-- Synite# S-6792 If there is another number give it to me and I can tell you the combination, which is lower or upper. I have all the factory color combination for 1942 to 1952.
