I asked earlier about brake cylinders. Thank you to those who read and replied to that.
The second item I need to know more about before talking to my mechanic is replacing the engine mounts. The originals have compressed to the point where the dual exhaust adapter is touching the control arm and popping its gasket. Is there anything Hudson specific I need to tell or give the shop for motor mounts?
The third and final item is fabric adhesive. A couple of years ago I had the interior redone. Unfortunately the fabric glue that was used is failing and I have door panes that have the edges peeling off, the back bottom of the front seat is also detached, and the fabric over the door pillars is bowing out. What product(s) would you suggest I use to fix these fabric?
Thank you for taking the time to read and respond. I feel much better being armed with information when going to the mechanic. While he is fairly good and works on classics it is not his specialty and I am the only Hudson he works on.
Thanks again 🙂
Moved to "Hudson" category
thanks. sorry about that
Michael, I bought a pair of front engine mounts off eBay some months ago which worked out very well. Easy to install too.

Mike, regards to the motor mounts. On occasions originals( a square/Rectangular style) show up on Ebay or maybe some accommodating member has a set for sale, however AMC Concord from 1985( era) will work, albeit, they are round like a donut. I have Advance Auto part # 2330, or NAPA 60221162. 3M makes a clear adhesive for fabric that will not bleed through. Brake cylinders... My advice is to buy new ones they can be bought on Ebay, or Kanter, even Napa an the like. Usually cylinders develop a ridge where the plunger rests. Machine shops will hone the cylinder out and resleeve them with brass. If you just put in new seals they will leak again. White Post in Virginia specializes in that service. You receive them back ready to install. But Hudsons Bendix cyls are easy enough to buy new. Save the old ones. Sooner or later new ones will be difficult to find.

I think you got the shapes of motor mounts reversed. As far as I know, original stepdown motor mounts are round (not square). Wildricks should have in stock. I have also seen them on ebay...... http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Front-Motor-Mounts-1948-49-50-51-52-53-54-Hudson-New-/141348097019?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3AHudson&hash=item20e900cbfb&vxp=mtr
If you are having a problem with collapsed front mounts I would recommend that you also do the transmission mounts. They are likely also gone. Otherwise you could be shifting stress to the transmission that is not recommended. Wildrick also has the transmission mounts. Recommend you save the core as you can also get the cores redone according to some authors here. Note that the transmission mount on the left side can be a PIA to get to.
I bought engine mounts for my '54 from Dale Cooper (advertises in WTN) they fit great and were reasonable in price. Replace BOTH front and rear mounts; my fronts looked OK so I replaced just the oil-soaked squished out tranny mount, and when I put the engine back in, the front u-joint hit the underside of the floor. I then replaced the fronts and everything fit correctly. I measured the old and new fronts, there was 1/2" to 1/4" difference in height.
Thank you all for taking the time to respond. While I had the mechanic working on my brakes he also looked at the engine mounts and what I thought my problem was. The exhaust leak was not the exhaust adapter but from the heat riser. So, I actually need to track down a new gasket. While tight the exhaust adapter is not actually hitting anything and should be fine to keep the way it is.
Buy a can of contact cement from an upholstery supply store. You will want to brush it on. 3m makes spray on contact cement that works great but I think you would make a mess with it trying to just glue the edges.
Are the doughnuts bonded to the mounting plate or do they have a through bolt arrangement?
