I am having my 1939 Hudson 212 6Cyl engine rebuilt.
The mains have been Babbitted and ready to be in line bored.
Questions:-
What are the thickness of shims? .020"?
Does the length of the shim extend onto the bearing shell or be the same length as the cap?
The reason I ask is,the old shims, the front and rear are the same length as the cap as the center main extends on to the bearing shell,or does it make any difference?

Don't believe it makes any difference.

It absolutely does make a difference, as if you do not have the correct thickness of shims the timing gears will mesh up too tight. You must have .021" thickness of shims, and the bearings reamed to the center line.

I didn't answer your question fully Ivan, sorry, the shims protrude beyond the cap, and fit between the shells.
