How can we convince those guys over on the CC site to move over here without being disrespectful of the host over there? If the Hudson folks leave, there won't be much left ..That site is a programming nightmare. This format seems much easier to navagate. The only suggestion I would make is to reverse the order posts are displayed. Make the last post appear at the top? Personally, I decided to start my posts here and then if I don't get a response, I give the CC site a whirl. Maybe just stop going there? hmm.... any ideas?

Hi Dave,
We appreciate your comments, thoughts and support.

That's part of the reason we haven't really 'pushed' the HET Club Forum on the Classiccar.com Forum - Out of consideration to the site for their years of supporting us. However, the previous 'owners' have sold the site & departed - so IMO, our residual obligations there minimal (at best).

As far as how the individual posts in any thread are viewed (latest first vs. latest last), that is subject to individual taste - in each person's "Profile". To adjust that -

- Click the 'Profile' tab;
- Click the 'Edit' button;
- Click the 'Forum Settings' tab;
- Make your preference under 'Preferred Mesage Ordering';
- Be sure to click the 'Save' button when done.

I think the key to this conundrum is the fact that the original owners (??) of ClassicCar have sold out. In looking over recent comments there appears to be little input from the current owners. IMHO, having been playing with ClassicCars since the begining back in 1993/1994, I have noted a decrease in service (does that sound right??) every time the site went down and was brought back. There was in the beginning a great chat page where we talked about anything from Aadrvarks to Zebras and everything in between. So given the current atmosphere at ClassicCar, ie apparently not doing anything to correct complaints, I don't think we owe them a thing and thus can quietly fold our tents and flags and come home to the HET site.

That's my opinion, for what it's worth.

I agree Alex. However, I cannot see us alienating classiccar.com in the process. Keeping our 'touting' (i.e., pushing, emphasis) of the HET Club Forum to a minimum (at least on the classiccar.com Forum) has been a part of that.

That being said, I do not think there would be any issue with members of the classiccar.com Forum mentioning or referring people to the HET Club Forum - as long as it was done in a good natured and respectable manner.

Rick - Thanks for the directions on reversing the order - I prefer it that way too.
Looking forward to this site building it's number - hopefully I can find more time to be active in it as well!

This is a great discussion. In my mind we want this site to be a mini mall of benefits for the Hudson Club member. There are many places online where you can get certain things. Hosting all the different forums (Early Hudsons, Essex, etc.) is something we really want to work towards. When I look at this site, right now we have membership information, vehicle information, a library with good information including the old WTNs (more to come), we have a decent Forum. Most folks cant see this but we now are supporting online frontend reports for the directors to see who is expired and allow them to update members records with contact notes and preferences. They can also see the current membership count. I dropped the ball but we still need to get a photo repository on the site. I am trying to get the coding in place so members and see all the info on their cars, and also get a query so members can see all the vehicles for certain year, make and model. What else would make this a destination spot for all things Hudson?

Aaron- Under no circumstances do you get to use the phrase "dropped the ball". This is a great site and you with the help of a few others has made this a fantastic place.

Adding pictures along with the other updates that are coming will make this a very attractive site. The need for this has been a long time coming and I am very grateful for your hard work.

Agreed, completely! I'm actually quite surprised that Aaron can find any time to sleep! 😉

Thanks guys. I have put a lot of time into the site and we are starting to see the fruits of putting the member database as the backbone of the site. Charlotte is doing a fantastic job of adapting to the new software. We were almost ready to roll out a photo application but I feel it is a bit too cludgy for all members to be able to figure out. The constraint of course is that it has to be a Joomla app which narrows the field significantly. But apart from getting a photo capability up and running, is there any other service that we need to look for on the site? I know some folks have mentioned live chat, but there really doesn't seem to be a good program anymore for that, at least none that run in the Joomla! 2.5 environment. We need to continue to encourage fellow Club members to make this their Web home and Forum home. That gives the HET Club control over the content.

I have to also agree with Todd and Rick - Aaron has done a fantastic job on this site. I sometimes wonder where he finds the time to keep up with it. It's an easy site to use, easy to navigate around and just generally a user friendly site.
Keep up the great work - and that goes for all our moderators.

I love the format here. It's like our old forum. So much easier to navigate and WAY more user-friendly.

Glad to see you on here Walt. We are really making an effort to have this be the destination spot for Hudson Club members.

And its so user friendly!!! I just noticed that the type font looks darker today - another tweak maybe??? Lot easier to read and I like the font too - that's easy for these tired old eyes to read. Thanks to Aaron and the gurus for this great site.
