OK....I am driving at 45+ MPH, I push in the knob under the dash, lift foot off gas...OD should go "thunk" and be engaged with car free wheeling if I lift of the gas, correct?
I am not hearing the "thunk" nor am I hearing a noticeable decrease in RPMs. However, it is free wheeling.
The kick down switch does not do anything when I mash gas pedal - no temp hick up in firing of engine.
What might have I missed in getting my OD working?
It's not going into OD when you lift off the gas, that's clear. If it did change into OD, it would have stopped free-wheeling at that point. And since you're not in OD, the kick-down doesn't do anything. The OD must be engaged for the ignition-shorting and kick-down to take place. A common cause of not going into OD is the governor. Run a test: with the button pushed in, and engine running fast enough to turn off the GEN light, get underneath and use a jumper wire to ground the wire to the governor. You should hear the solenoid "clunk." If it does, the problem is in the governor.
Come back with the results of that test and we'll take it from there. If you'd rather discuss it directly: 803-327-3929, or pwald@comporium.net. Park.
Thank you, Park.
I had the governor off the other day and chucked it in a drill. using a multi meter, I "got tone" when the governor was spinning and had the set at "Tone Continuity." I was testing from the case to the place where the wire connects.
I will be able to put a wire on tomorrow after church. Right now, I get to drive the car around town and take my wife to dinner.
