I am a newbie to the car world i have acquired a 37 and a 38 hudson terra plane i am currently taking the 37 apart i have a couple of questions . is there a trick to getting the back door open it seems loose but won't unlatch and the second question is how bad is bad my floorpans are pretty well gone . are there replacements available ? thanks
Welcome to the world of Hudsons! The 1937's (Hudsons and Terraplanes) are possibly the most common amongst the remaining pre-war cars, in the Club. So it shouldn't be too hard to get information on them. The 1938's, on the other hand, are among the rarest because 1938 was a recession year and not many cars were sold. However, under the skin, it's pretty identical to the 1937.
I'm "at work" now (supposedly, LOL!) so can't take the time to answer all your questions. But I'm pretty sure that someone is making floor pans -- though they may need a bit of "tweaking" because they fit a range of Hudson years. The front passenger floor pans are made, I'm sure...it's just the rears I don't know about.
As to your door problem, I don't know (my '37 is not a 4-door). Sounds like a latch problem. Sounds like you're saying that when you turn the handle all the way, the door opens partly, then the latch catches on the "safety" and it won't open past maybe 1/2". Is that right? If you, you may be able to wedge a screwdriver in there and slide the lock bolt the rest of the way in, to get past that last detent in the strike plate on the door.
You may also want to join our "other" Hudson forum: the Hudson Open Forum. We inherited that from a commercial website that was being closed down, earlier this year. Otherwise we would never have elected to maintain two separate forums. But it is quite popular and between BOTH of the forums, you will probably get your answers soon! It's at http://forum.hetclub.org/
FYI
Replacent Floor Panels are available.. Currently on E Bay selling for $55; Understand need some tweaking but better than fabricating the whole panel.... Suggest remove the back door panel then should be able to work the latch to open the door.
thank you both for replying this is a great forum and i am looking forward to meeting some of you fellow hudsoners if thats a word thanks again for the reply and info

Tim, what is your location?
I used those eBay pans on a 37 PU. They did take some work to make fit but nothing too hard.
Also as suggested above, more people perticipate on the "open" forums.
Good luck with your project!
i am in illinois and i did look on ebay it looks like there is a good selection to pick from . i have as much to learn about the 37 as i do websites !! thanks again
