Hello all,
So, a few days ago, I had my generator die. I have rebuilt it and readjusted the voltage regulator. But now my headlights won't work at all. Turn signals/brake lights are fine, but no headlights. Is there a manual reset for the circuit breaker on the headlight switch? I've looked all over for it...
Barring that, replacement? Other thoughts?
I apologize in advance. Electrics aren't my forte. But then again, most things aren't my forte, and it hasn't stopped me before...

Or taillights...
The circuit breaker itself may be the cause. If you could get it off the switch and take it to a "real" auto parts place (like NAPA) they might be able to find a near match. I am told by my StepDown friends that these items are out there, and possibly still available through stores. I did a bit of quick research through old discussions at the other forum, and found that you don't need a six volt breaker, a 12 will do.
In the meantime, do a quick eyeball check of your wiring. If the headlight circuit is grounding anywhere, this is what is causing your primary problem, not the circuit breaker (which is, after all, functioning properly if you have a short circuit). Look especially at the junction block (somewhere around the radiator on a StepDown I believe) and where the wires pass through the firewall. These are prime places for the insulation to be worn off the wires. Also, get up under the dashboard. Any place with the original cloth covered wire is a place of prime suspicion.
When you get a chance, buy yourself a dual headlight relay (they can be found on Ebay, NOS) and install it. Then, the heavy current goes directly to your lights, and all those miles of old wire and the corroded light and dimmer switches no longer have to bear the load; they only serve to signal the relay that it should send current to the lights.
