How do you remove the horn ring on a 1949 Hudson Commodore? Found out how to remove plastic horn cover. Am restoring steering wheel with the Eastwood kit. Do you just pry up? Looks like two metal pins on each side of horn ring. Don't want to break anything.
Anyone have a source for the plastic horn cover for this year and model?

Gary, just slide the pins out very gently. Then watch for the orientation of the other parts such as springs and the clamping bracket. . The horn ring isn't the trouble maker. Removing the 48-9 Commodore steering wheel is. For that you need a special steering wheel puller.
Do the pins pull down to remove? I couldn't figure out if the pins pulled out or you had to pull the pin and holder out.
I understand you have to use a Snap-on steering wheel puller that is from the 40s. I have not been able to locate this tool. I was thinking of losening the nut on the steering wheel and using a dead blow or rubber hammer to break it lose. Any inputs?
Thanks so much for the information!

Update - the horn ring was easy to remove and the steering wheel was extremely difficult! I tried everything with no positive results. Tried to make a puller from a 2x6 with a semi-circle cut out and a plywood strip across the column. Just suceede in bending the plywood. Then used a 2x4 and ended up snapping it. Tried a gear puller and suceeded in really messing up the plastic hub. So finally ended up breaking the plascic on both sides of till I could use a Bearing Puller and get to the metail steering wheel core. I put so much pressure on the steering wheel that I thought I would break something, but it finally popped off. Luckily I had the nut on the shaft so it didn't end up in my chest.
So now the steering wheel has been repaired with Eastwood restoration kit, primed with Self Etching Primer, painted and clear coated. Used the new 2K Clear Coat that has an activator in the spray can. Should be durable and looks nice. Will post a picture later.
