I uncorked a 308 today that had some unusual features.....and some usual. It was obviously someone's toy.....opened up intake ports, 2 inch intakes and 1.700 exhausts, and what looks to be about a .400 cam lift (haven't measured it yet). The head casting # is 304619, which I think is a 232 but it has had some fairly extensive machine work to make room for the valves (see photo). The odd thing is the N-62 Champion spark plugs, a long-reach plug, threaded into adapters with a 7/8-16 thread. These weren't there as repair fittings but were to accommodate the long plug thread. Note the ground electrode up in the inside of the plug body. Can't say that I've run into that before.
There's a surprise in every box!

I thought you might like to see it twice.........
I guess it's fairly obvious that the intent of the below-flush electrodes is to allow clearance for exhaust valves but the question remains, what are those plugs originally made for?

Those are spark plugs made for race engines. The OFFIE engines used plugs like that. They are made for high compression engines, and used a magneto to fire them. I know as that is what I used in my OFFIE race car. Walt.
