Some one said I have a Camaro front end under my 53. My 53 is all stock, but driving across this country 12 times without power is murder. I install a Buick power steering, Oldsmobile power steering pump and never welded or drilled any holes. I made a plate to bolt to the same places as the original steering and set the caster to the max. When at a meet and guys check under my car they can't believe how I have it installed. I can install the original steering back in under 4 hours. If and when I sell my car the original steering goes with it. Walt.

Seems to me like you should document that and sell a booklet on the install. I did that on an A/C install I did on a '65 Healey back in '86 and sold about 200 copies(36 pgs & 25 photos). Anyway, my '53 has '54 power steering installed on it. Steers good BUT I have about wrecked in the 4 times I have driven it; once turning in my own driveway. The steering is too slow and because of that it is dangerous. I have had many and still have several other old cars and have never had one that you had to turn the steering wheel about 4 times{it seems} to turn a 90 degree corner. I can't imagine driving one with stock non-power steering. In fact I wouldn't have one, period !!! Sounds like you have what everyone needs, including me even tho I have power !!! Thanks for letting us know it can be done. Oh, I just got this car a short time ago. Yes, I would surely purchase a booklet.

My attorney said do not do any stories about your P-S set up. If someone tries to copy your write up and has an accident, with people today all about suing, you could be in big trouble. I let all check my set up at meets, and take all the pictures they want. This car has been to every National since 1998, but have to miss this years as my wife of 70 years is under the weather. Steering is a bad thing to play with, without a lot of hit and misses. You are correct about Hudson steering, slow and to many turns, 5 turn lock to lock. Was going to Henderson NV but Doc said no long trip for Margaret. Walt Mordenti

Didn't think of the liability on steering--you are correct. My situation is really not being used to it yet; not a seasoned Hudsonatic like you are; never been in one until 3 months ago and I will be 78 in May !!! Never seen but less than 5 in my life. When you are from a small town in the 50's and there wasn't a Hudson dealer within 100 miles, the locals didn't drive that far to buy a car; at least not in WNC. Tks for sharing.

I sold Hudsons as a sub dealer for a big dealer in Waterbury CT. 1945 to 1956, then sold AMC cars till 1978. I spent 4 years in the air force on B-17's as ignition and carb specialist. 1942 to 1945. I started to work on Hudsons in 1934 after school, had to help the family, 7, and was offered the part time work and took it against my mother'sI wishes. I know them inside out and have to laugh at some of the answers. I'm going on 93 in three (3) months and have no plans to slow down. Walt Mordenti

Sorry to hear I will miss you at the meet, Walt, but my best wishes and prayers for you and your lovely wife; it was so nice talking to her on the phone last year. Take care.

BTW, your kits are all working beautifully, as are the Twin H carbs. The thermostat kit may have to be removed- the care runs 'too cool' 🙂

I hope a lot of owners read your last statement. My kit really works. Wait till the temp gets into the 80's or higher and then you will be happy. Walt.
