Hannah has new valve cover gaskets installed. What an interesting challenge that was with my Popeye Jr arms. I just hope that takes care of major oil leak.

She is back on all fours and her battery is being trickle charged after a long winter's nap. I have have to pull the oil pump off and get a new gasket set of it as well. I hope to drive her to new car show next Saturday, the 16th.

Hope I never have to install new valve cover gaskets !! Or adjust the valves: almost all of the right side of the engine would have to be removed. Headers are beautiful but that is the downside. AND I have a 12 foot ceiling and an Autolifter~~~~
Thank goodness for the 3-bolt flanges or the whole exhaust would have to come down.
EDIT: I think all this is correct, not sure?
So,Ed, it might could have been worse.

On all oil pressure Hudson engines, 232-262-308, make sure you set the valves, with a cold engine, intake .014 and exhaust .017, you will never have to do a valve job. With my long distances driving, at speeds a little over 90, my valves are set, both, .020, 143,000 on my rebuilt engine in 1998 and still have 130 lbs of compression. Set at factory settings was good for the old days as highway speeds were 45 MPH. Walt Mordenti

Do not think I having any compression issues. I left the valves alone.

I only changed the gaskets because there is an oil leak all over the side of the engine. I think it was caused by the fact that I did not have a gasket around the down draft tube.

Walt :cheer: You mention that your car runs 130 lbs. compression. Is that the amount for Hornets or has your car been modified to up the compression? I mentioned elsewhere that my Pacemaker has 80-91 lbs. and have been told that that is good for a 232. Should I expect more from a 232 or not?

I use the standard cast iron Hornet head. When building my engine 1997. I had the block decked .010 and the head .010, this to make sure I had 2 surfaces that were true. Has never been touched. Hudson says 100 lbs for all engines, 232 262 and 308. My compression is higher because I run .020 clearance on my valves which makes them close quicker and makes the car run faster at higher speeds. You are OK with the compression you have. Just make sure you set your valves cold, .014 and .017. When crossing the country i drive 500 plus miles per day, and cover 3,100 miles in 6 days. With valves set at .010 and .012, hot engine I would be on my third valve job. Walt.
