Wanted for a 1939 Hudson 112 - The medallions that go on the front fenders. They are a kind of vertical adornment. I need to buy two, but if none are found I'd like to borrow one from somebody and have them cast. Any ideas? Any offers? Thanks Mike Sheridan

You'll find that these are rare Mike to say the least. Barry Sweetman in Australia had some 112 bits and pieces however I can't remember if he had any of these.

It would be worth dropping him a note to see what he may have. Shipping from Australia can be expensive but for the smaller bits I'm sure it won't be too horrendous.

I know there are others in the club that have some 112 parts but things like the medallions tend to just disappear

You may have tried the following approach, but if not --

The old fashioned way sometimes works: e-mail an appeal to the various Hudson vendors who advertise parts in the WTN, with a photo and description of the part(s) you need. (Take a moment to think if you need anything else besides the medallions, and add it all to the list.) Then ask them to get back to you if they have one, or both, for sale.

The number of Hudson people who regularly inhabit this forum (and the other Hudson one) is but a fraction of the 3,000 people in the Hudson club. So you will have to try some alternate methods to do a thorough parts search. Ebay and Craigslist are always handy for finding parts, especially those for sale from people who are not involved with Hudsons on a regular basis.

It's so much easier now than when I joined the Club in 1971. In those days you had to mail a letter to each vendor, work up a sheet with hand drawings on it and a list of parts needed, get it Xeroxed, include a stamped, addressed envelope for reply, and mail it off to a dozen or more people! E-mail has made life a lot easier, in this respect!

I know they are rare. I've got someone who will cast new ones for me, so if someone will lend me one (I assume they are the same, not a right and left, I'll have some made. And, if others are in need let me know and I'll get a price to make more. I'll sell them at cost, just to help create this rare part. MS

Ok. I'm going to have new fender medallions made. Anyone who would like some, let me know and let me know how many you want. The preproduction estimate is $125 - $150 apiece. There is no markup from me. I'm happy to make them available at cost. You could buy the cast medallion at an estimated $75 - $100 and have them chromed your self at a later date. Please let me know if you are interested. I'll put an ad in the White Triangle about it as well. MS

You may want to announce this first in the WTN on the chance that you might get a few more people on board before going into production. (More orders = lower production price, I assume.)

When you get them made, I'll be happy to list them in my online list of Hudson Repro Parts http://www.detailedconcepts.net/Repro_Table.pdf , just let me know.

Jon - Yes, I'm going to put it in the WTN>. I don't think higher quantities will bring down the price. It will be cast in small lots. Chroming is what it is - piece work. I don't know that this will be an ongoing offer. Probably a one time event. I don't plan to buy more than the two I need for myself. MS

Have you investigated having them machined out of stainless steel and fasten
2 studs on the back (silver solder) This would eliminate having to have them chromed and you can't tell the difference after they are buffed up.
Once a CNC machine is set up they should be able to run them off.

I'll check to see if my source has a cnc. They also have a little curve to them, so they would have to be rolled as well.

Now that's an interesting picture as the ones on the front of mine appear to consist of individual pieces. I have caught a polishing rag on them more than once.

Would there be different constructions at all or do I have some that have been fabricated in the past?

Well, I don't have any, but that is about what I expected it to look like. Certainly one piece as it's only held on at two places.

Do a Google search for '1939 Hudson 112", and you'll find quite a few photos, some large enough to see good detail on the front fenders. Most originals show the medallions, and a few don't show them (or even the 'side grilles').

Anyway - I've shipped medallion in the photos (today), per Mike's instructions.

I'm on the list for a set, am looking forward to seeing what they look like.

I had a look at mine today between rain showers.

There are definitely "extra" pieces on them which sit proud of the actual medallion on the drivers side (passenger side for you).

Looks as if I may have hand piece on one side!
