Does anyone know of a source for flywheel ring gears for the '34 to '54s?
I do, but they're not cheap:
1934-1940 all 6-cylinder and 8-cylinder models with 134 tooth gear, $135. VAPCO, http://www.vapinc.com/flywheelringgears/main.html
You could probably do much better in a used gear, by contacting some of the Hudson vendors listed in the WTN classifieds. Undoubtedly there are some good used flywheels out there, complete with their ring gears.
I've tried them in the past but they wer closing out the supply (had 2 left back then) so, unless they had another run produced, they don't have them. We'll see if they return my call. I have little luck with that.
$135 is fair if you need one.
Most used ones, particularly on the six, can be simply removed and rotated 60 degrees to expose a relatively unworn set of teeth in the initial engagement area. The eights have a much narrower set of un-bashed teeth, so it's less worth it. The particular Eight I'm working on had been "converted" to 12 V, which takes a nasty toll on the ring gear.
Maybe I'll just make my own. All ya gotta do is.........
Frank
I must eat my words.......again. They eventually called and do have them, and just in time.....I was about to make one.
Remember they only go on one way. There is a very small lip that fits the small area on the flywheel, and goes on by the back side of the flywheel. That's the clutch facing. Walt.
