Hood latch adjustment

Greetings Hud Nuts... need some guidance here.
My 53 hornet's hood latch refuses to stay down. I have adjusted the male latch, no help. I think i need to adjust the female receiver hole by bending those small fingers on the sides. I think they don't hold the male in the right spot and when the pot hole hits.. pop goes the hoodie.
Sooo, any idea's from the peanut gallery?

I know nothing about the "modern cars" (the ones without cranks) but don't those hoods have rubber bumpers on them? Would you have to adjust both the male part of the latch and the bumpers as well?

It might be, for example, that even when the male portion (stud?) is loosened so it extends way up, the bumpers might still be holding the hood far enough away from "closed" position that the stud can't extend far enough out to allow a secure "grab". Of course, I'm assuming that the bumpers are screwed on and you can adjust them in and out but maybe they're in a fixed position.

Also, are the receiver plates or gates, and all the control cables, properly lubricated so that the plates close tightly around the male portion, holding it firmly? If not lubricated, seems to me that they wouldn't shut tight and wouldn't hold the hood securely.

John,

If you don't have a service manual, or body manual, I think they are here on the site, so you can look for the procedures there, but Jon is right that you may have to adjust the rubber bumpers. Your cable release pull may be sticking in the open position. Take all of it apart and clean it carefully then put it back together. Grease the proper places on the latch. Good luck!

Some times the receiver hole gets wallowed out and as I had to do braze in a pipe the size needed to keep the hood part stable in the receiver.
