Have a mechanical temp. gauge installed(capillary tube) at the rear side of the cyl. head where the original temp. light sensor is supposed to be installed. [This is wire #14 on Y to Z harness] How/where? can I install the electrical resistance sensor so that the temp. light will come on.
Tks--suppose to know this but have a constant 'blank'--getting old.

Richard

There is no temp warning light. The two lights are for oil pressure and generator output. The sending unit in the rear of the cyl. head is for the temp gauge on the dash.

sorry, didn't mean "light"; meant "gauge"; is it possible to run a mech. gauge with the original gauge? If the mech. gage sender is where the original sender was mounted, where would the sender for the original temp. gage be installed. In other words, is there another plug in the water jacket where the sender could go? Believe the orig # of this wire is 9.

No,there's not another place for a temp sensor. Why the need? The original type sender is available, and the gauges work fine. Getting them to read correctly with 121v is pretty easy too.

Car came with extra instruments: oil pressure, temp.,& volts.
Wanted orig. temp. gauge to also work.

you can install a mechanical temp gauge to the thermostat housing by drilling into it to accommodate the tube?

I drilled and taped a hole ( 1/4" pipe) in the left side of the cyl. head about 4" back from the front of the head and installed the mechanical temp. gauge "sender" there. Norm 🙂

thanks--that is where it should be anyway; capillary is long enough. Will check that out; can have numbers and approximation at the same time~~~ NOW, where does someone get the original sender--they didn't save it.

Richard, the TS-4 should be the sender for your 53. Plenty around.

The TS6153 is for the 1948 -1950 cars, and have a different thread. The TS-4 is available at Summit Racing parts for $9.97.
